Episode Transcript
[00:00:03] Speaker A: DFAT Entertainment.
Welcome to the 264th episode of Towelite Talk. This is Chris, this is Casey, and we are back. This is year 10 of Towelite Talk. We've been podcasting and geeking out for the last decade and more with Don't Forget to Towel. It's been a ride, my friend.
[00:00:34] Speaker B: Heck, yeah. I'm very excited to keep going on this journey until we can't stop talking. So we have no voices.
[00:00:43] Speaker A: Can't stop, won't stop. And it's time to geek out. So what do you. What have you been doing besides upheaving your entire life?
[00:00:54] Speaker B: That's been the main thing.
But, you know, I've been playing a lot of magic in between that. Just. I got back on arena, had stopped for a while, and then I was like, I have all these wild cards. Like, why don't I see if I can create some of my decks that I. I have on paper in arena and, you know, just to kind of play test them more.
So been doing that a little bit here and there in between the maddening cacophony. And what do we watch? We watch paradise, which is good. We just finished the Residence last night, which is also. You would like that. It's another. It's a murder mystery, kind of like Agatha Christie type of thing. And.
Yeah, I don't know. I think that's it. What about you?
[00:01:43] Speaker A: Me, I've been. I've been playing on a lot of Assassin's Creed Shadows a lot. And then last night, last night I realized the Indiana Jones game come out yesterday, so I started playing that last night, which is really cool game.
Yeah. So two opposite games right now, which is nice because they kind of have different place play styles, so I can go back and forth between that. I watched first episode of Lazarus, which is the new anime about a creator, Cowboy Bebop, and it was really cool.
Second one's on already out. Came out yesterday. So it comes out Mondays on Max and getting ready for Daredevil season finale tomorrow, which has been just an awesome show.
[00:02:33] Speaker B: Tonight's Tuesday.
[00:02:34] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, tonight. Sorry, I keep thinking it's Monday. Tonight. Today.
Today we will know the facts.
[00:02:40] Speaker B: Recording on tax day.
[00:02:42] Speaker A: That's right, 6pm like your favorite TV shows back in the past. Just get on the couch and get ready to watch them because something brutal reckoning's coming for Ralph's Kitchen. You know, I did, you know, one last thing is I finally watched Transformers 1, and it was a fucking blast.
Yep. We were watching G1.
[00:03:05] Speaker B: What's that it's fantastic.
[00:03:07] Speaker A: Oh, it is.
[00:03:07] Speaker B: Everybody. Like, it's just the humor sometimes doesn't always hit, but the story itself is just super, super fun.
[00:03:17] Speaker A: I mean, the humor didn't really hit in the 80s either, so I didn't mind it.
[00:03:21] Speaker B: I'm just saying if, like.
[00:03:22] Speaker A: I know. Me neither.
[00:03:24] Speaker B: Yeah, it's a good movie.
[00:03:26] Speaker A: It's great stuff. Great origin. And looking for more. So let's jump into the news today with Marvel. We got a title for the new Spider man movie and it's one of the. I'm sorry, no. It's one of the worst comic book titles of all time. Brand New Day.
So anyways, I'm sure Spider Man 4 will be great, but it's called Brand New Day.
[00:03:48] Speaker B: Yeah, listen, honestly, I don't even think they took in the comic book into consideration when they came up with it. I think they just kind of wanted to start us off on a new foot, you know, going forward. But that being said, yeah, it's a shit comic. It's a horrible Spider Man.
[00:04:06] Speaker A: You mean new day, right? Not. Not new footage, new day. And it's brand new, so.
Also, beyond the spider verse will be dropping on June 4, 2027. So we have plenty of time to wait for that movie still. But I'll gladly wait those two years.
[00:04:24] Speaker B: Yeah, good things come to those who wait. You know, four years or whatever between sequels is pretty huge. I mean, that whole movie trilogy will be like 10 years in the making, I think.
[00:04:37] Speaker A: Especially animated, right?
[00:04:38] Speaker B: Maybe longer.
It's bonkers.
[00:04:42] Speaker A: It is, it is.
Everybody's really excited for Doomsday. And so we got. We got this huge like 2, 5 hour tease of people come out in the state. Like the chairs opening up on stage. It was like one of the most ridiculous things that were. Yeah, it was kind of. It just. I think when you think you're bigger than your britches in a way and you're just like, people are gonna enjoy this or people gonna appreciate that. No, it's just. It was the dumbest reveal I've ever seen in my life and then only to have RDJ at the end. So whatever. We found out that the Fox X Men are returning in droves. So we got like Night Crawler, Cyclops, Mechano, Professor X and more returning, which after Deadpool, Wolverine, I. I thought that was all cleaned up. But we know that Secret wars is on its way. So what do you think about that?
[00:05:44] Speaker B: I think the casting is expected. You know, this is, this is the handing over to the new world of mutants we got a little bit of a brave new world in Captain America 4, you know, with talk of Animanium and, you know, we've had some stuff in there, here and there. But yeah, usher in the Mutants. Like, let's just fully get this fleshed out, please.
[00:06:09] Speaker A: Absolutely.
And then speaking of casting news, Lily Taylor has joined Daredevil, Born Again season two.
It's being said that she will be a political opponent of Wilson Fisk.
Whatever. This is a yearly TV show. We're going to be seeing a lot of this stuff and I'm excited for it.
[00:06:32] Speaker B: Yeah.
So I love Lily Taylor. I just think she's a great actress. She's in Six Feet Under. She's in like this really cool Warhol movie watched back in the day. So I just think she's a good actress and I look forward to whoever she decides to play in this show.
[00:06:48] Speaker A: Yeah, there's a lot of, there's a lot of, like, stuff they can do with this show. A lot of characters that they could be talking about bringing in. So it'll be, it'll be interesting to see how close they stick to comic book stories and how far they're willing to go with this whole series. So I'm excited. It was a great first season.
[00:07:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:07:05] Speaker A: Yeah.
Jonathan Hickman's writing another Marvel epic, if you believe that or not.
Since he just put up the new ultimate universe and more. There's a new series coming up, a four issue event entitled Imperial, which will revolutionize, quote, unquote, Marvel's galactic canon. So, hey, he's, he's the, he's the archetype. So he's just taking over and writing all these great stories for Marvel as he has been for the last over a decade.
[00:07:44] Speaker B: Yeah, you know, Jonathan Hickman, when he's on fire, he's on fire. And, you know, I could. I'm in for more Hulk, World War Hulk type of action.
Let's see, you know, bring it on.
[00:07:59] Speaker A: And then also we have a new Godzilla one. It's Godzilla versus Thor.
Godzilla's been taking on the Marvel universe. The most recent one was Fantastic4 and Versus Hulk. We got X Men coming up, Spider man and the Avengers, but he'll be taking on the God of Thunder.
And this one is actually. This one kind of caught my.
This one kind of caught my eye because I. That's the kind of fight I'd like to see versus anybody else, I think.
[00:08:27] Speaker B: Yeah, I listen. Godzilla fighting anything, let's see what happens. You know, I'm all about it. Like you said, there's just been a slew of these crossovers, especially this next one. All about it.
[00:08:42] Speaker A: Yeah. So this one, the Thor ones, are gonna be written by Jason Aaron with Aaron Cooter on art. That arrives on July 3rd. Second.
And then as you said, ultimately it just comes down to Godzilla destroying the entire Marvel universe, which it seems like this whole these, all these one shots are accumulating to this one big four mini four issue miniseries which is dropping later this year and he's going to be taking out the entire one. So the series launches on July 16th. Written by Gary Yugin and art by Javier Garon.
[00:09:19] Speaker B: Perfect. It's a good creative team behind that. And whenever it's a Marvel versus the Marvel Universe, like Deadpool or Punisher, et cetera, those are all really usually fun types of comics for sure.
[00:09:35] Speaker A: For sure. This one I've been waiting to buy all these, I think in one big graphic novel which I'm hoping they'll release. Yeah. So I'm sure they will.
Next up, Marvel Cosmic Invasion. If you're a fan of the Shredders of Revenge, the same people that brought you that are bringing this arcade style Beat em Up and it looks cool. It's been a long time since, I don't know, it's not been a long time since I've been emulating on my Steam deck, but. And playing these kind of games. But I'm ready for a newer version because Treasure Revenge was great. The GI Joe game was okay.
But these games have been super popular as of late.
[00:10:14] Speaker B: Yeah, listen, X Men arcade game, even the Avengers arcade game are some of the, you know, funnest superhero games, especially that Beat Em up style. So to have that come back, I just hope we see Colossus, see Nightcrawler, you know what I mean? Like, I really am excited to see what they do with the roster if they can flesh it out.
[00:10:33] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm sure there'll be plenty of DLC for it, especially if it's a good game. So Michael Giacchino brought us the Amazing Werewolf by Night.
One shot for the mcu. That little. What was it like a. Basically just a one off story that they told. Right now he's coming back and he's going to write a comic for Werewolf by Night. And I'm excited for this because they've been doing a lot of cool stuff on that side. I think there's been like a red band Werewolf by Night comic that's been out.
So Jack Russell's back and Giacchino has a great story to tell.
[00:11:18] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm down. You know, he can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. And he wants to throw a comic. We need more werewolf by night. Bring it on.
[00:11:27] Speaker A: We always need more werewolves.
So jumping across the pond to Lanterns. Jason Ritter's been cast, and the rumor is that he may play Black Hand, which is a character that has not been featured in live action as of yet.
Really cool villain. Set off the whole Blackest Night miniseries. He's a really evil antagonists, so if he's gonna be murdered, like, if there's be a murder in this show, I'm hoping that Blackhand did it.
[00:12:00] Speaker B: That would be great. And he's a good actor and it would tie in because, you know, that's the big question is how do they. If they're going to Earth, how do you still tie it into something space, like and Super Hero Y. And that would be a great way to kind of bring that world together.
[00:12:18] Speaker A: Absolutely. Speaking of bringing the world together, if you had any doubts, Nathan Fillion's Guy Garner will be appearing on Lanterns, which, you know, I figured it would happen, but it's just. No, it's good knowing that it's gonna happen for sure.
[00:12:33] Speaker B: That's. That's just it just. Thank you, you know.
[00:12:36] Speaker A: Exactly. And again, thank you to James Gunn because Peacemaker Season 2 drops on August 21st. They just announced that date with a few more little clips from the show. And honestly, the first season was so good. It'll be really interesting to see this dichotomy of him writing Superman and then writing what he writes best. So I'm really looking forward to the second season.
Yeah.
And then last up, Batman and Robin.
There was another miniseries not too long ago that featured an old story of Bruce and Dick Grayson. This time around, it's going to be Jason Todd as the Robin. So Batman Robin 2 will be dropping. It's by Jeff Lemaire and Dustin Nguyen.
[00:13:25] Speaker B: Cannot wait. Those guys love them. Their team ups all throughout Descender Ascender, and just keep going. They can do wrong.
[00:13:36] Speaker A: Exactly. Yeah. It's good when they just. They continue these pairs and they. And they just do so well together. So we got a lot of news from that galaxy far, far away.
A lot. And this is like, we're approaching Celebration Japan, which it's very soon. I wish I could be there, honestly. This is like. It's one of those things. And I'll mention it. I mean, we can just start with. I'm going to start with that as, like, these exclusives that have been like, Been dropping like these Japanese theme exclusives like the Visions Ronin Black series figure or the. This stormtrooper with. With the cherry blossoms on the Vader one. So there's a lot of these really cool ones.
[00:14:20] Speaker B: Yeah, that's it. You know, maybe you can get them. You know, there's always a chance on ebay. There's always a chance of a variant, you know, with different colored blossoms. And you know, listen, Disney's pretty good about taking your money. So we'll see to do. And you know how we maybe we see it a couple years down the road in a different way or at Disney. You know, I'll be living there so maybe I'll be able to get it. We'll see. But yeah, it's. It would be nice to go to Celebration. I guarantee we'll go again.
[00:14:54] Speaker A: Oh yeah, absolutely. Yeah. I'm sure that Visions Ronin will be dropping at some point, the Black series version of it, but it's just not in that packaging. But that's one that I've been waiting for to get my hands on. So hopefully it does drop from the Disney side of things. There's another Tales of coming out which I was. I didn't know if I knew this was coming out or I just don't really pay attention enough. But Tales from the Underworld is dropping soon and these Tales of have been really great.
They're Dave Filoni backed same animation from Clone wars and the animated shows. So we got Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane this time around for the two characters.
[00:15:39] Speaker B: Done. Sold. Don't even need to see a trailer.
[00:15:43] Speaker A: No, no.
We also have news from Star Wars Visions Volume 3.
There's a whole synopsis of the episodes and they revealed a new image from it in which they're saying the psychedelic battle between past and present, light and dark, life and death rages in this tormented psyche of an Imperial soldier near defeat.
So that's one of them. I won't go into the rest of them because it's nice to be surprised by a lot of this stuff and also kind of the cool stuff they do outside of the normal storytelling that they're able to do with this. Which is something I really appreciate in which they would do more of not just on like the anime and yeah Japanese side of it, but just they. This is how they should expand their storytelling.
[00:16:33] Speaker B: Yep. Yeah, totally agree with you. It.
It's a nice little facet of the. The galaxy that we don't get to see nearly enough of or sure we.
[00:16:46] Speaker A: Do have some new comics coming out soon the. The. Like, it was a maxi series, 12 parter of the events that led up to the battle with Jakku.
Around that post Jedi New Republic Times. Now there's two new series. So there's a new Star wars number one coming out this month. And they also just announced a new Dr. Aphra comic called Chaos Agent.
And so that drops on June 18th. It's going to be written by Cherish Chen and art by Gabrielle Guzman.
[00:17:17] Speaker B: Yeah, I. I'm excited.
She's been a really welcome character to the franchise since your premiere and more. Dr. Aphra is always appreciated.
[00:17:29] Speaker A: Absolutely. Absolutely.
And then next up, we have a new. What is this? This is a prequel set just before the Phantom Menace.
It's going to be about Sebalba.
It's called Beyond Victory. A new mixed reality experience for Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets.
So seemingly the old pod racer games are getting a new life and they're going to be in VR.
[00:18:05] Speaker B: Okay.
I would have to play it. You know what I mean? I don't know. I don't have a meta quest. So, you know, let me read the reviews on this one.
[00:18:17] Speaker A: Yeah, that's. That's the thing about it. It's like that Vader game was great.
[00:18:22] Speaker B: There's a lot of.
[00:18:23] Speaker A: Oh, there's. There's our alarm. There's Vader.
Actually, no, that's a. That's the. The alarm for the eradicator figure that drops in five minutes from McFarland Toys from Death of Superman series. I need. Anyways, speaking of geeking out.
And then we have a new manga coming up. It's called Path of the Lightsaber.
So, like I said, they're stretching their fingers everywhere and a lot of this cool stuff is dropping. So it's going to be November 11th.
It's going to be. It's created by Kenny Ruiz and it takes place during the sequel Trilogy era. Sees Nyoka discovering a lightsaber as well as other forces seeking it to take it from her.
[00:19:10] Speaker B: You know, I. I still have my original Star wars manga that I probably got in like the late 90s.
And I love that style of storytelling. I love what it looks like. I like new stories. You know what I mean? Like, this is new characters, new setting. Like, yeah, they're Stormtroopers, but, like, this is taking. When did it take place again?
[00:19:35] Speaker A: Sequels.
[00:19:36] Speaker B: Right, Right. So just during that time. So, heck, bring me. Bring it on. Like, we need to get back. As much as those sequels can be a little bit, you know, crunchy at times, we've Got to go forward at some point too. We can't just stay in this weird setting of like, here we are in the prequels. Here we are in. In the ot. Here we are in the post ot, but also not before. So like pick a time frame.
[00:20:04] Speaker A: They did. It was called the Acolyte and it got shut down.
[00:20:09] Speaker B: No, I know. I just like.
[00:20:11] Speaker A: Right.
[00:20:11] Speaker B: Just like, come on. I'm sorry.
[00:20:12] Speaker A: Thanks, fans. But real fans want stuff. But you're right, I.
From the High Republic. I read that. I read some of those mangas, which I enjoyed a lot.
Yeah. It's just that I like the ability to tell stories in different formats for different ages.
And we gotta remember that's what Star wars is about. It's not just for 40 year old to 50 year old Krusties, you know, so it's like, let the rest of the world enjoy it. If you're not going to.
Speaking of enjoying something, Master of Evil is a new Star Wars Darth Vader novel.
They'll be dropping more of this on during celebration, but it's been revealed and you know, I love these, I love these, these types of books, man. Because it was like some of the best ones were like, what was the ones that happened around episode three that I forgot what that book was called. But that was an awesome book. This one is by Adam Christopher, who also wrote Shadow of the Sith, which I enjoyed. And it chronicles Vader's haunting pursuit for the power to conquer death.
It will be dropping also in November.
[00:21:27] Speaker B: Okay, so. Right. I just talked about how I want to go forward. Okay. I love Darth Vader's story.
[00:21:34] Speaker A: I'll read it.
[00:21:35] Speaker B: You know, the books have been one of the best things to really expand that character and make him as hot, you know, badass as he's supposed to be. So let's. I'm fine with this. In fact, I'll be reading it.
[00:21:47] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know. I mean, moving forward is fine. I think moving forward.
[00:21:51] Speaker B: It's a mix, right? It's a balance.
[00:21:53] Speaker A: It always will be. Right. And I think you're right. There's some that are just like super fleshed out already and they're so hesitant to take on like the sequel time. Like they're like, where's this Ray movie? Why has it been meeting so much resistance? Or why is it taking so long to like decide what you're doing? Is there a new trilogy coming from us? You know, it's time to kind of get on board, like get locked down. I think that's really what you mean and just decide what you do. If you can just tell stories like Skeleton crew is here.
Tell good stories, expand the lore and don't get bogged down by the bullshit. True, true.
[00:22:31] Speaker B: I agree.
[00:22:33] Speaker A: And this one, this one was just recently announced with more details. Also coming during celebration, new video game called Star Wars Zero Company.
One player turn based tactics RPG set during the Clone Wars.
[00:22:48] Speaker B: Okay, you have me intrigued. Let's see his trailer. I know there's a panel coming up and you know I love rts.
[00:22:58] Speaker A: Yeah, I know you're. You're a big fan of these types of games. This one's gonna be put up by Respawn, who also did the Jedi games. Yeah. So yeah, I am intrigued by this. They revealed some art from it. So it should be, hey, like Midnight.
[00:23:16] Speaker B: Suns, stranger things have happened.
[00:23:18] Speaker A: Exactly. Midnight Suns is a great, great game. Yes, it was.
And then jumping over to Star Trek News, we got a new teaser for the upcoming season of Strange New Worlds. And I am so excited for it.
[00:23:38] Speaker B: Just that classic, you know, TNG vibes a lot and it's just such a fun show. It's a good mix of like all the, all the best of Star Trek. So I'm excited for this.
[00:23:51] Speaker A: Heck yeah. Heck yeah. I mean, it's been a while and it's time to get back on board with the crew of the Enterprise, so.
And then let's jump over to crowdsourcery. What can you tell us about these?
[00:24:07] Speaker B: So I've got the boom Expanse book. The other one had expired. It's so.
[00:24:16] Speaker A: Well, then I'll talk about this one. Yeah, yeah, go ahead if you want. Since I put it on here.
Yeah. Sometimes when we do these notes, we only do the show once a month, so sometimes things kind of fall off. But if you're a family Expanse, which, which I should be. And I've been meaning to watch it and read it and, and just roll around in it, you know.
James Sa Corey returns to the Expanse with what's called a little death.
It was funded in 11 minutes. And if you, if you want to continue this story that was, you know, being told on Amazon for a while, here's your opportunity. It's backed. It's going to happen. Jump on it. It's taking place after the conclusion of season six.
[00:25:08] Speaker B: That is perfect. Good way to back it. Get on it now.
[00:25:13] Speaker A: And a great way to jump to commercial. So we'll be right back with the rest of the.

[00:25:53] Speaker A: Oi. Over 20 points of articulation, great sculpting, and look at the paint job on her.
[00:26:00] Speaker B: We've been looking all over for this one.
[00:26:02] Speaker A: Let's get him enough sights and end this hunt now.
[00:26:06] Speaker B: All right, all right.
[00:26:08] Speaker A: Steady, steady now.
[00:26:11] Speaker B: Got him.
[00:26:13] Speaker A: It's the pursuit of Plastic.

[00:26:54] Speaker A: All right, we're back from the commercials. And Casey, what time is.
[00:27:00] Speaker B: Is time for the pursuit of plastic.
[00:27:03] Speaker A: And so we have a team up from Lego and the people that bring you Pokemon and these. Apparently there's new sets coming in 2026 based on those little creatures. And if you can catch them all, you can build them all. So now that LEGO doesn't have enough, you know, properties to make sets out of, let's just add another one. I've seen these really cool, like, mini brick sets that my friend has, and I thought they were really cute. And I think LEGO could even, you know, they could do an even better job with them.
[00:27:39] Speaker B: Yeah, I am a little curious how this is going to work. Right. Because Mega Blocks has been making, which is owned by Mattel.
So did they lose the license or is this like something different? You know what I mean? Like their, their models, I think are like the best thing that they've done. But also obviously LEGO does really great models, so it'll be curious if this is just a changing of the guard or just another thing which we'll bring up later on where it's like, how many of these companies have. We talk about all the time? How many of these companies have the franchise? You know, how many Turtles companies are there? And maybe this is just another Mega block brick building company, right?
[00:28:24] Speaker A: Yes, exactly. And speaking of that Star Trek, which we've spoken about, you know, who who can do the best job at not continuing series or just dropping the franchise completely when they're making toys. It looks like Nacelle is continuing with what they're doing after their first series. There's a new one coming out, new wave. And what I love about what they're doing with this is they're doing more odd, odd versions of the characters or characters you'd never see in action figure form or expect to get. So here there are some, you know, some high flyers, but like, for example, you have Captain Kirk from Generations, when, when Picard finds him in that little weird area, whatever that was, the time loop thing. But this one comes with like a horse and like where he's chopping the wood and all that stuff. So you're getting the Generations Kirk. You're getting a version of Captain Janeway, which I don't believe is even in her uniform. It's like.
[00:29:29] Speaker B: It'S like a tank top.
[00:29:31] Speaker A: Yeah, it's like a tank top. You got nog, which is great. I get a knock figure anytime. A Tipo from Enterprise, Valeris from Star Trek 6. So they're kind of going everywhere with these figures. Oh, and then the sailor uniforms from when they did that, that one off holodeck thing when there were pirates or whatever. Yeah. So, you know, so you know, the Forge and War from that. So I think it's kind of fun. Nacelle's been doing a great job with action figures and, and some oddities. So I'm, I'm kind of intrigued to see how long they can keep this going.
[00:30:07] Speaker B: Me too. And you know, I gotta say, like, the sculpting is great. Like, it looks like Shatner. So, you know, see what the rest of these look like.
[00:30:17] Speaker A: Absolutely, absolutely.
And then, you know, I just talked about McFarland toys. I got my radicator, so.
APPLAUSE but also, you know, with McFarlane, like, there's no news if McFarlane is actually losing the DC license to make. We just know that Mattel has picked it up. So we'll probably see a little. We'll either see it stop or we will see, you know, him doing some more of the more comic based ones, maybe some more of the odd ones, who knows? But at WonderCon he dropped a slew of figures that are coming out, which includes the one I just pre ordered. But also like Cowboy Batman, both Return of Superman eradicator and Hal Jordan armor suit, Jade, Mr. Miracle, Sandman, another Azrael, more Return of Superman stuff. So he's not stopping.
But what I really. What I'M really excited for was the.
There are some Batman return figures coming out and I really was wondering if he was gonna get to that or not. And yeah, I.
That's one. I might have to get that whole. That whole little run.
[00:31:38] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean when you. It's an impressive lineup, so if you lose the license going on a bang. But yeah, Bronze Age Nightwing alone is. It's worth it.
[00:31:50] Speaker A: Exactly. Exactly.
So there's a full list of them, but be ready for that slew of pre orders coming soon.
Excellent. We're gonna jump over to comic book news and there's a couple. You know, this isn't exactly news about series. This is news about how the comic industry is either like condensing itself, merging, falling apart, all of this stuff. So the first one that we, you know, just happened recently was IDW was going to be distributing Alien books. And so Alien is like what, Valiant, what swallowed Valiant, you know, and so that. Here we go now. Valiant is going to be, you know, what was Valiant is going to be distributed by iw.
[00:32:39] Speaker B: Yeah, I. I don't know. You know that the whole Valiant worst is as far as I'm concerned, just up in the air until we see some of these books coming out. It's just kind of weird. But at the same time more Valiant. I'm not going to say no to that. So however they get it out there, I'm also excited for that.
[00:32:58] Speaker A: Yeah, IDW has been doing an excellent job with their releases and picking up what they can. So I mean, this is the way of the way of the way. Then it's going to have to happen. So. But speaking of that is tfaw.com is done. We found this out. I found this out through you, which I'm not sure I'm going to talk about. But Dark Horse Distribution, Dark Horse Online has been laying off people since early February. And this was kind of sudden news at TFW and kind of. I. I didn't quite realize that it was Dark Horse that was doing the distribution for them, but they're shutting down the online, which has been my go to for over a decade.
Affiliate. Affiliate of. Don't forget a towel. And the stores themselves, the physical stores will stay. There's a few of them across the country. But yeah, it was kind of shocking news to learn this.
[00:34:02] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, I understand it's hard. A lot of people are shuddering and I get it. But it is a big blow because like you said, affiliate with. Don't forget to tell. For over a decade we've Been buying for them probably since that time or maybe even before. So it's just kind of wild.
So rest in peace. Tfaw. Got my final order on I don't know, the other day. That's it.
[00:34:32] Speaker A: Yep. Wild. Well, looks like I gotta shop local. Like I should be doing.
[00:34:39] Speaker B: Right?
[00:34:40] Speaker A: For sure.
Jumping over TV streaming news. Neuromancer has two castings. We have Peter Sarsgaard and Dane DeHaan joining the William Gibson adaptation for Apple TV.
[00:34:57] Speaker B: Hey, Apple TV seems to be doing everything right as far as sci fi goes. So you know, 10 episode series. Let's see what happens. I love Peter Sarsgaard.
[00:35:10] Speaker A: Yeah. And Cyberpunk. So very excited.
Yeah. Well, I also love the book.
[00:35:15] Speaker B: Yeah, let me. Let me say that too.
[00:35:19] Speaker A: I do love the book. Heck yeah.
And then also Apple TV is also doing other things right. Like releasing another season of Ted Lasso. So we all thought it was over at season three. Nope. We were wrong. It's coming back for season four.
[00:35:35] Speaker B: It's crazy how much money can change you.
[00:35:41] Speaker A: Right? Lasso.
[00:35:42] Speaker B: I've got no complaints.
[00:35:43] Speaker A: I just.
[00:35:44] Speaker B: I thought that was very funny. I'm done. I'm done. Well, I'm not that.
[00:35:49] Speaker A: We have more stories to tell in this universe. So. Awesome.
We are getting a new Power Rangers TV show and it seems like. Yeah. So showrunners from Percy Jackson, Olympians. Which is honestly I haven't watched yet, but I've heard it's pretty good and I've been meaning to do that. But they'll be taking on a live action Power Rangers tv. It's officially in the works at Disney plus and why not? They want to reinvent the franchise for new generation. Power Rangers is still popular and you know, since it debuted back in 93 in America.
So. Hey, whatever, man. If you can keep. Keep it going. Keep it going.
[00:36:41] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, every generation deserves the Power Rangers. We had ours at the beginning and I think it's one of those things. It's kind of fun. I get it. There's a fever for it. So Power Rangers forever.
[00:36:55] Speaker A: I guess that's right for life.
Next up, from Peacock's Crystal Lake, the A24 prequel series that's coming soon.
It's official that Linda Cardellini will be playing Mrs. Voorhees.
[00:37:16] Speaker B: I love Lyndon Carly.
[00:37:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:37:19] Speaker B: And I. And this is such a weird idea as it is, you know. So I don't know what the hell is about to happen, but I am more than happy to. To find out what they're going to do with this show.
[00:37:34] Speaker A: And then we have the Harry Potter show that's coming out.
It's funny because usually we catch this kind of stuff, but there's been a lot of castings happening and somehow we missed the John Lithgow one as Dumbledore. I looked back at our notes and it was never on there. So we failed at that.
[00:37:55] Speaker B: But they came out when we did. I don't know. You know, that happens too. We'll record and then a minute later some huge news comes on.
[00:38:04] Speaker A: Exactly. Exactly. But I don't. I don't need our excuses. We. No, we have to do better. No. Also recently, Nick Frost was cast as Hagrid.
We have Papa. Peppa is Sudie is Snape. I don't even know who that is. Let's see. I may destroy you.
[00:38:25] Speaker B: I like I made sure. But there's a lot of just British.
[00:38:28] Speaker A: People, which is good.
[00:38:31] Speaker B: Yeah, the movies were too, you know, like you didn't know everybody. And then all of a sudden you're like, okay, now I know all of you.
[00:38:38] Speaker A: Precisely, Precisely. We have Janet McTeer is McGah.
Paul Whitehouse is Filching.
Luke Fallon is Quirrell.
And that's. That's it. We have some major roles have been filled and now we're just waiting for our young wizards to be cast.
[00:38:59] Speaker B: That's it. I'm. Bring it on. I'm all about it. I. I want this. I just want them to hurry up before these kids get aged out like this is. This has to be a yearly show or really know. We don't need another Stranger Things or these unquote 13 year olds are 25.
[00:39:18] Speaker A: It's gonna happen because they. They just can't seem to get their stuff together.
[00:39:21] Speaker B: So.
[00:39:21] Speaker A: We'll see. We'll see.
Speaking of things that we've been waiting to happen, A Different World is getting a sequel series at Netflix. So if you're okay. Right.
[00:39:36] Speaker B: Hey, listen, I watched it. I love Dwayne Wayne. I love that whole, you know, I'm there. I will check it out. I liked how it was like a weird kind of Cosby spin off series.
Sure, fine. Bring it on.
[00:39:52] Speaker A: Right. The Cosby's were doing shared universes before we even knew what a shared universe was.
[00:39:58] Speaker B: I know. Well, I wonder if Lisa Bonet and J will come back. And I wonder if I would assume all of them come back.
[00:40:04] Speaker A: I would assume so if it's a season bad.
What's he doing?
He's not speaking of what they're doing. Jim Cummings is returning as the voice of Darkwing. Duck.
Awesome. I.
It's been Darkling Duck. Continue that. Like, they did the. They did the DuckTales new series not too long ago. They. They had Darkwing Duck in it.
You know what, man?
What is old is new again. And still superhero stuff. So there's plenty of stories from Mallard City, you know.
Yeah.
[00:40:45] Speaker B: I don't think anyone. You know, if you watched it then you'll watch it now and maybe show your kids. So, yeah, never stop liking Darkwing Duck. That'll be super fun.
[00:40:57] Speaker A: Speaking of super fun, Casey, did you watch this trailer of Predator, Killer of Killers? Because I did, and it looks like the greatest thing that's going to be dropped in the realm of Predator since Prey. So what is his name? Dan Trachtenberg. Right. And also Dan Tractburn's back.
[00:41:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:41:20] Speaker A: So he's. He's producing this animated anthology show where the Predator or predators fight different warriors from different timelines, which we, you know, Prey did. And then we just were like, you know, it'd be really awesome. They just did a movie every year based on this. So they will be with Badlands is coming out eventually. And then this just like Vikings and samurai and fighter pilots. I mean, I think they're pretty much going hog wild with this idea that.
[00:41:53] Speaker B: We'Ve ever wanted to see.
[00:41:54] Speaker A: Yes. And it looks so super violent.
Even the animation is. Is different, but it's still super violent. It's cool. I love it. Can't wait.
[00:42:06] Speaker B: So pumped. So pumped.
[00:42:09] Speaker A: All right, so we're going to jump over to movies.
First up, a new Starship Troopers movie is in the works from filmmaker Neil Blomkamp.
You know, I swear, this was kind of teased with him attached to it not, you know, not too long ago or a few times over the last decade, but it seems like it's finally happening.
[00:42:30] Speaker B: Yeah, listen, Blomkamp is a great, accomplished director who hasn't done nearly as much as his potential should allow.
You know, Starship Troopers is one of our favorite movies ever. Let's see what this does. You know what I mean? Let's. Let's go.
[00:42:49] Speaker A: And then also the Toxic Avenger, Troma's beloved hero, is coming out for theatrical release on August 29th.
Peter Dinklage is taking over the role of Toxie. And so we got our first look at him in makeup.
So what do you think?
[00:43:11] Speaker B: Yeah, you know, they showed, like, a little teaser, and I did watch it, weirdly enough. It felt like a trauma movie. You know, it really did, like.
[00:43:24] Speaker A: Cool.
[00:43:25] Speaker B: It was extremely violent. It was weird. It had a gross Humor. And those are all the things that trauma is known for with, you know, a little bit more slick. So I am more than excited to see this. And I can't wait.
[00:43:43] Speaker A: Movie also stars Kevin Bacon and Elijah Wood. So we'll see big names.
And, man, I remember it's so funny that this is still, like, this movie can still come out in this time, you know? So I don't know. You know, we watch. We watch this kid. We watch the cartoon as kids.
Your experience with Troma, we'll see how this does, especially as a big theatrical release and not. Not just on a streaming service, which is interesting. So we also got first looks at Mortal Kombat 2, including Carl Urban's Johnny Cage and more. So there's been some really funny stuff from that. And I'm just. That first movie was a surprise. But I feel like this one's going to be even better with the tournament being more center stage of it and the inclusion of these antics that they're doing with. With the Johnny Cage character.
[00:44:47] Speaker B: Yeah, I. I'm in. You know, the first one. One of the big complaints is that there was no Mortal Kombat.
And even I, you know, I thought it was really good. But I want to see this tournament. And, you know, the filmmakers have come out and said, listen, we heard you. We're doing it. So Carl Urban's there. I can't wait. It's just gonna be so much fun.
[00:45:09] Speaker A: Heck, yeah.
All of it, man.
And then Also Young Guns 3. And you put this on here. Who can. Who confirmed this? Emilio.
[00:45:22] Speaker B: He did. Emilio did.
[00:45:23] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:45:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:45:26] Speaker A: You know what, man? I'm ready. They're gonna do, like.
I don't know what this is gonna look like.
Old, old man. Billy the Kid. I don't care. I love the Young Gun series. Westerns are hot again. And I'm in. I'm in for Young Guns 3.
[00:45:47] Speaker B: Yeah, me. Me, too. It's. It's gonna be interesting.
I don't. You know, I don't remember when the first ones took place. Like, I don't know. You know, what. What is it in as far as time goes? You know what I mean? Like, how close are we to the turn of, like, cars and all that? I'm feeling like a Red Dead 2 type of situation.
[00:46:07] Speaker A: All right. Exactly. Exactly.
Next up, we have the Life of Chuck, which will star Tom Hiddleston. And this is another Stephen King, Mike Flanagan team up here.
This looks odd and weird, so as it should be. This is going to be a little bit less of the horror side. Of things. But this will be a post apocalyptic, apocalyptic story starring Tom Hiddleston.
[00:46:40] Speaker B: Yeah, I listen. Flanagan has yet to disappoint. Would I like it to be horror? Sure. But does it have to be? No. You know, let's see what happens. I'm excited to take this journey.
[00:46:57] Speaker A: This will be dropping in theaters on June 6th.
Next up, Amy Pascal will be producing Bond for Amazon since they just recently acquired the entire, you know, the entire saga from the Broccoli family. So what do you, what do you think this is gonna look like? Do you think it's just gonna be like treated correctly? Do you think they'll just, you know, release as much as they can with it, like flood us? Like, you know, they already had that weird like game show type thing or reality show. Do we get that kind of stuff where it's just gonna be like bon bon Bond? Are we gonna get actually some, you know, real attention to the character and good storytelling?
[00:47:47] Speaker B: I think it's gonna be a mix. Right? You know, I think it's just like Star Wars. It's just that we're gonna get more. So we're gonna get more opportunities of crap. But people can argue that Moonraker is crap. At least now we're getting one every couple years. Maybe instead of every decade you get a new Bond or whatever. So honestly, I'm really okay with this. The Broccoli family has done an amazing job, but nothing's perfect. You know what I mean? Maybe Planet of the Apes, those things aren't. So let's just see what happens. Bring me a new Bond. That's what I want. That's it.
[00:48:29] Speaker A: Will it be big? Like, will they be doing big screen stuff? Amazon Studios for it?
[00:48:35] Speaker B: Yeah, Amazon. So, you know, we didn't, I guess address it outright, but we're. A lot of this news came from Cinemacon and Amazon had the biggest showing. You know, they talked about Running man, they talked about like all these other franchises like Ryan Gosling and Channing Tatum and they had all these huge name actors, the most of any of the other studios because, like they're trying to really take out a lot of these people and having James Bond will do it. So I think they've got the potential to do a lot of great stuff and I think they'll take full advantage of it with all the money that Amazon has.
[00:49:16] Speaker A: Absolutely agreed. Agreed.
Next up, we have word that the Legend of Zelda live action is real for release in 2027.
And this will be from Nintendo in Sony Studios. So I, you know what, man? I'm surprised we're getting a live action before like an animated. Honestly, especially like since people go, yeah, the Mario movie was good, you know, so is it. What do you think about this? The live action idea behind this? Like, should it be. Should they be doing animated? Like I'm. It's kind of like you got two years, right. It'll get pushed back, I'm sure. But what do you think about this?
[00:50:03] Speaker B: I mean, to answer your question, both, right, this is Zelda. This is another 40 year old franchise almost.
I think Mario turned 40 this year.
[00:50:14] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:50:15] Speaker B: So Zelda's coming up quick right behind it. And yeah, there should be a TV show starring each of the kingdoms. You know what I mean? The kingdom, Hyrule. There should be a Zelda show. There should be a link show. There should be link. I don't care. So live action animated, both.
[00:50:36] Speaker A: Yeah, they need to be farming this like they have not been doing for the last 40 years.
The technology is there now. The. The want is there.
Decades of, you know, decades spanning fan, like fans of all ages are playing Zelda these days. So it's like it's the time. So just either lock it down or don't. So we got word of more John Wick stuff coming, including John Wick 5, which, you know, nobody expected that to happen.
[00:51:11] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, listen, whatever, again, everyone knew there was another one. And I will watch every single thing that comes out from this world.
[00:51:23] Speaker A: Absolutely, absolutely.
Including an animated prequel. And also confirmation that Donnie Yen's character will be a spin off movie. So Kane will be getting his own movie.
Yeah, I'm. Whatever.
Bring it all on Wict verse continue until I'm dead again.
[00:51:48] Speaker B: Yeah, that's. That's just it. And again, to what we've been really talking about. They're doing it right. There's a ballerina movie coming out soon. Jens got this Kane movie. There will be, you know, like they're really expanding. We had that video game. I'm shocked there hasn't been some comics coming out yet. Like they're going to keep milking it and I'm totally here for it.
[00:52:11] Speaker A: Absolutely.
So this is a weird one. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood gets a sequel. Tell me about this.
[00:52:18] Speaker B: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood not only gets a sequel, it's starring Brad Pitt and directed by David Fincher. And it is.
[00:52:27] Speaker A: What?
[00:52:28] Speaker B: Yes. It takes place, I think, eight years later. It stars Cliff Booth. It's on Netflix.
I don't know if.
Yeah, I think Quentin Tarantino is writing it because he's Been so, you know, talking about how he doesn't want to direct as much, but he is writing it, so I don't get it. I don't care to understand it. I just want to see it. Though I'd still rather see a Bounty Law TV show, but I still watch this.
[00:53:04] Speaker A: I think we all could agree with that one.
Yeah, It's. Honestly, it's one of my favorite Tarantino movies.
And it's just. It's. It was really surprising, you having a David Fincher. So I'm in. I'm in more than I was two minutes ago.
[00:53:21] Speaker B: I know, right? That's so weird.
[00:53:25] Speaker A: It was weird enough.
[00:53:26] Speaker B: And then I said. And I was like, oh, okay, whatever. I know Quentin Tarantino's not doing it. And then I was like, wait a second. David Fincher is doing this?
[00:53:35] Speaker A: Weird.
[00:53:36] Speaker B: Oh, so ready?
[00:53:38] Speaker A: Very cool.
We got a little. You know, all of this is Cineconic on news here, but the. The whole last Airbender movie, we got the full title for it. It's called the Legend of Aang. The Last Airbender.
Nothing.
Nothing surprising, but at least we have a full title of this movie and sequel series or sequel movie that's coming out to tell the story of when they're a little bit older.
And I'm just waiting for the magic the Gathering set now at the end.
So. Right. Which we talk about.
[00:54:13] Speaker B: Right. So. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know.
[00:54:16] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:54:16] Speaker B: Great news for all of you Avatar fans.
All the. Avatar this year. I know they showed Avatar 3 movie stuff too, so it's just. It's funny.
[00:54:28] Speaker A: Yep.
Did they.
Man, you're right. Maybe I should go pay for that. That cinema experience of Cinemacon in the theater. They should have been doing that as it was happening. Like, that would be fun. Like. Yeah. Immediately after. So people are like, yeah, let's do this now.
Tron. Ares, which has been in the works for a long time, is finally coming out. They dropped the trailer for it, which, honestly, I told you to go watch it because it was just like. It really kind of surprised me about the way they're. They're doing it. It seems very big.
It's very, very super sci fi.
So, yeah, this. I'm excited for this. It makes it made me want to go back and watch the other Tron movies, the show, all that stuff, because I don't think my wife has watched a lot of that, especially the show, so. And I haven't watched Tron.
What's the second one?
Legacy.
[00:55:31] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:55:32] Speaker A: Yeah. In a long time. So it's time But I'm even more excited for this 9 inch nail soundtrack contract that's attached to.
So cool. So cool.
[00:55:42] Speaker B: Yeah. I don't know. Obviously, new night shells. I'm gonna be there for it.
[00:55:47] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly.
[00:55:48] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:55:52] Speaker A: Next up, Death Stranding. A24 is found. Director Hideo Kojima will can really trust. As it says here, so per deadline, Michael Sarnoski has been tapped to write and direct the adaptation.
He's done the Death of Robin Hood and also helmed A Quiet Place. Day one.
[00:56:17] Speaker B: Okay. You know, I just don't know enough about the game yet. Like, it's been one of the things. I own it, and I've kept myself away from the story.
I feel like I kind of need to play the game first before I watch this. But I am excited that it's moving along, you know, especially with Hideo Kojima actually wanting to endorse it.
[00:56:42] Speaker A: Absolutely. You know, it's funny because, you know, another adaptation just dropped the TV show, the Last of Us. Season two just dropped this past Sunday, and I have not played part two. I've only played part of it. And I'm just like, you know what this is? What? Like, as much as they kind of went off track with the first season a little bit, it still was like, I have still and watched that season finale because I know what I kind of like. I know what happens.
[00:57:09] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:57:09] Speaker A: So it was never kind of like, oh, this is great. I want to, like, I love the show, but it was always not too much of a surprise every week for me. So I'm, like, more excited to watch the second season. So that's the thing about this. The stranding is like, I've been wanting to play that first game. The second game drops really soon, and so it's like. Like, you. I've been, like, avoiding all these spoilers, but I don't know, I'm just like, they're not. They're not changing enough for it to be new. New where? It's just like, I'd rather be surprised when I watch something almost. But I don't know. I don't know my real feelings.
[00:57:46] Speaker B: Yeah, I got you.
[00:57:51] Speaker A: Next up, you know, Magic the Gathering little game we play as fun. They're eyeing Matt Johnson to direct the recently announced movie from Hasbro and Legendary.
So he did a movie called BlackBerry, which. I have no idea what that is.
[00:58:08] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, even I haven't seen BlackBerry. But I also don't care because, you know, I want to see Magic, the character.
[00:58:18] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:58:19] Speaker B: And I feel like Hasbro, you know, Every single person I know who has seen Dungeons and Dragons has really enjoyed that movie. So I feel like they're gonna give us what we want. And especially out of something that really hasn't been touched outside of books. Right. I don't even know if there's. Are there comics for magic?
[00:58:41] Speaker A: There's comics, yep.
[00:58:42] Speaker B: Okay. So, you know, but not a lot. So. So, you know, see what's going on for sure.
[00:58:47] Speaker A: And you have so much material to like farm. So who knows where they would even start with that movie, what they could spin off from it. So very cool.
We've been told many times that there's a new Gremlins movie coming out, but Warner Brothers wants to once again confirm that there is a new Gremlins movie coming, but also. Oh, a Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice sequel. So Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice a third time. So I'm not going to say it three times. So, you know, good times.
[00:59:21] Speaker B: Yeah. This is one of those. I'm going to believe it when I see it. Beetlejuice, yes. It made money. I actually really enjoyed the second one a lot. So I'm totally fine with seeing more. It's just that Gremlins, we've been talking about it since the beginning of our website. We hear Gremlins news every other year, it feels like. So we'll see how this goes.
[00:59:48] Speaker A: Absolutely.
Finally, we're gonna go into gaming news. There's a little bit here to talk about, but first up, a little game called Twilight Monk which I shared with you. It's a Metroidvania.
It's already out. Came out on March 26th. Yeah, but I love Metroidvanias. I love these little, like these little indie games. So this is something that I really, really like enjoyed the trailer for and hoping there's a. Maybe there is a demo already for it. So we will see.
[01:00:23] Speaker B: Good, good, good, good thinking. Yeah, we will look and if there is, we will put it into the show notes.
But yeah, the game is.
It's not hard to. To sell us on a Metroidvania, especially with this kind of skill trees and all that. I mean, just game over.
[01:00:44] Speaker A: I mentioned earlier that I got to play Indiana Jones last night. I had thought it was coming out on the 17th with the two day early access that I have. But it actually comes out the 16th, which is tomorrow because we're recording this on tax day and it's out. I've enjoyed it.
I will say one thing, the cool thing about the game is it opens with the beginning of Raiders. So you get to kind of start the game that way and yeah, it's really cool. It looks great. Graphics are awesome.
Yeah, I've enjoyed it so far and I'm just getting into it and I'll be playing more of it today.
[01:01:26] Speaker B: Heck yes.
[01:01:31] Speaker A: So there's a lot of stuff here from Nintendo Direct.
The first two things we're going to talk about real quick.
I found this game called Shadow Labyrinth, which is a weird reimagining the Pac man franchise.
And if you haven't seen the trailer for this yet, I'm gonna put it in these show notes and people need to go watch it because it's really strange. And when I realized it was a Pac man game, I was kind of like, what the. What the. What the hell is this? So anyways, this is the kind of.
[01:02:04] Speaker B: Shit that I'm here for.
[01:02:05] Speaker A: Yeah, right, right, yes.
[01:02:09] Speaker B: Like get weird. And you know, as much as we want to talk, we'll talk more about the pricing and all that shit. But like, that's great. I'm in for it.
[01:02:19] Speaker A: Absolutely.
Also, there's going to be virtual game cards, making digital games even easier to use. So it'll be a feature for Switch and Switch two systems adds flexibility of some physical game cards to your digital game library. If you have the two systems, you can digitally eject and load games from one system to another. And you can even lend games to members of your Nintendo account family group.
Genius.
[01:02:45] Speaker B: Two weeks, man. Okay. Yeah. What we've been asking for for generations.
[01:02:54] Speaker A: Of gaming right now, well, well, they're smart, right? Because Nintendo games don't. Don't really drop in price to begin with.
And it's like you're going to go into this whole digital age where you're charging as much for digital games as you. As you are for physical games. Even with tariffs and all this other bullshit and production costs, you're still charging as much as you are for digital games and you can't share them. There you go, There you go. This is, this is. There's some stuff that's happening with Nintendo and we'll talk about this with Switch to that. It's just kind of like at first when I was like, oh, Switch two is not going to really do much that changed the game. They're not really going to do much, but something that Nintendo ends up doing every time they release a system, if they do something innovative and more. So we also got the Switch to Nintendo Direct, which they went into even more details of the system, the games, the release, all of that. So it's Supposedly coming in June. Right?
[01:03:53] Speaker B: Everywhere but America.
[01:03:54] Speaker A: Yes, right, exactly. With our wonderful tariffs and all that stuff that's kind of screwing with our economy.
We'll see. But right now, the pricing for Switch 2 with, with Mario Kart World is priced at about $500.
You get a good savings on the game by doing that bundle. So clocking it just under 500 for this system. It looks, you know, it. It's somewhere between a PS4 and PS5, in my opinion.
So, like, close, like very close to like what you like in your hand. Especially since, like you're getting Elder Scrolls, you're getting like Outlaw, you're getting all of these games that were just, you know, recent releases, high graphic intensity, like, and switches doing it because they're finally going up to like 120 frames per second, full 1080.
All of these really cool features put into the system where, you know, Nintendo was falling behind. You know, not always falling, but they were always behind in like the graphics and the, and the performance of the system and things like that, but nobody cared. Now it feels like sometimes games are kind of like game systems are kind of like, okay, we are. We're able to do greater things with our games and really expand. But now they're becoming more like computers. If you're charging 8, $900 for PlayStation 5 Pro, what's, you know. And then Xbox is getting Steam capabilities. Like where, like, where do you draw the line to where. It's not even a console anymore. It's a. It is a computer that you're buying, especially when things are getting priced out of console range.
[01:05:38] Speaker B: I think that's just it. Right. I just, you know, I just had to double check the cost of the Steam Deck. Right. High density deck, one terabyte OLED is 650.
[01:05:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:05:51] Speaker B: So. And we're complaining about a $500 system that has.
I'm not. I know the world is. I think the problem is the $90 game price tag absolutely is a real kick in the nuts. Because it is. It's actually, if you want to be really funny about it, is if we went back to 1991 and opened up a Sears catalog, the prices would be similar, if not more for an individual game and on par with that for a system back in the 90s. So $150, $100 for a game sometimes is more than what we're paying now, which is actually kind of insane. So I get the argue of a Steam Deck being superior. It's because every game is cheap. You could argue the Steam Deck is Probably the best handheld system of all time because you play every game from every system in any generation and you could probably do it for free, if not extremely cheap.
Nintendo is Nintendo, because of the games that you get there are, you know, just for that system. If you don't want to get any other games, don't get it. Just don't. Just don't buy it.
Because right now, other than advances in graphics in a couple of games that are high graphics, intense, like this Mario Kart game, there's no reason to get a Switch too. But, you know, you gotta lead with your wallet and we gotta see what, what's even gonna happen with the tariffs anyways if you can even buy a Switch too, right?
[01:07:27] Speaker A: Or if they just backtrack anyways item and because people are complaining and that's it. I mean, this is all gonna work. I think the best thing you just said was like comparing what you could buy a Nintendo cartridge for back in the day. Sure. You could buy a Nintendo system for what, like 150 maybe?
[01:07:44] Speaker B: Yes.
[01:07:45] Speaker A: You know, whatever it was back then.
And they've, they've been saying, like, video games are not making enough money to begin with. What they're giving you for 69.99 is crazy. Like the, like, I don't want to pay more, but I'm going to tell you right now, like Assassin's Creed, like that game should cost over $100 to buy because of the amount of like the amount of game you get from it. Like, it's just.
[01:08:12] Speaker B: That's it. You go to a concert, you spend 150 to $500 on ticket for four hours. You get lifetimes of memories. You do, because you went to that thing. But don't forget about how much money that experience costs you to get. Whereas I can have a lifetime of memories playing Chrono Trigger. And I paid 50 bucks for it back in 92.
[01:08:30] Speaker A: Right? And what is that? Inflation?
[01:08:33] Speaker B: Forget it. And I can keep playing it over and over again. I went to that concert once, right?
[01:08:38] Speaker A: $50 back then is what now? Like 150, $200 maybe? You know what I mean? It's like it's. People are just. They don't, they don't think about it, right? They think with their wallet and what it costs them now versus like, like you said before, it's just, it's kind of insane to me.
And that's why it was just like when I saw what they're giving you for that Nintendo Switch to and what the improvements they've made.
And just that as a handheld system, like you said, I paid under 300 for my Steam deck. It's the lowest. It was the first one that was released, the lowest tier of it. I love it, but it doesn't do a whole lot. You know, when I. At the end of the day, it's not gonna play these high graphic games. I didn't buy it for that.
If I want to, I'd buy a new Steam deck, which, you know, when Steam Deck 2 comes out, I'll think about it. But I've been a Nintendo fan. I've bought almost every Nintendo system since, you know, I was a kid. So it's like, when do I stop? And now, not only that, they're adding the GameCube emulator to it. So I don't know. They're doing the right stuff. They're doing the right stuff. So anyways, that's the show. Casey, where, where can you find us?
[01:09:50] Speaker B: You can find us on dontforgetatowel.com, the only place to travel geekly, as well as dfatentertainment.com and DFATent all of the social medias. We are lurking in all corners of your geeky Internet. And this is Casey saying go read your comics.
[01:10:08] Speaker A: And this is just saying, don't forget a towel.
