Episode Transcript
[00:00:03] Speaker A: Defect Entertainment.
[00:00:12] Speaker B: Welcome to a brand new episode of Towel Light Talk.
[00:00:14] Speaker A: This is Casey and this is Chris
[00:00:17] Speaker B: and we've got a pack show. Lots of crazy geeky news has come out since the last time we recorded. But top of the episode, how we always start it. Chris. 277 episodes. What could you possibly be geeking out on after all this time?
[00:00:37] Speaker A: You know, I find something new every day.
It's the only way to keep going,
[00:00:42] Speaker B: the only way to do it.
[00:00:43] Speaker A: I marvel MTG just dropped, so I'm, you know, getting through those.
Bought a. Bought the booster box. Got some cards. Commander decks came in. So it's good. Set a lot of cool cards in there and looking forward to building some decks from it.
I've been playing some video games.
Been playing Fallout 76, which I meaning to, but I have some time this summer, so enough time to put into a big game like that and the time that's needed to explore the wasteland.
Dave the diver just came out with a new dlc, which is amazing.
[00:01:24] Speaker B: Of course he did.
[00:01:25] Speaker A: Yeah, it's just. It's a really cool one. It's in the, like in the jungle or something like that. But it's like. Yeah, brand new game, basically with a new. With a bunch of really cool mini games in it. I don't want to spoil anything because I was really surprised by some of them.
Yeah. But you got to kind of play the whole game to do it and then do this dlc. But it's really. It's really awesome the way they did it. It's just.
I give it. I give a lot of credit to that game for what they put into it. So.
Yeah, that's that Bond and.
Yeah. And then Star Fox just came out. So I'm inundated with video games.
[00:02:05] Speaker B: Oh, shoot. Yeah, that's right. That's right. Star Fox is there. Okay.
[00:02:09] Speaker A: Starfox is great. Don't listen. Don't listen to haters.
[00:02:13] Speaker B: I'm not. I'm not.
Which, speaking of haters, I went and saw Supergirl and personally, I loved it.
My family loved it.
I guess I can under. You know, I can understand complaints about anything, but I just.
I don't know, I read the comic. I love the comic. I didn't expect it to be gospel, you know what I mean? Like, these interpretations are never one to one. They took their own spin on it. But I don't know, I had a great time and I thought she was a good Supergirl. And since the movie's making no money, we'll see how this gets folded into the greater DCU or whatever they're calling it, right?
[00:02:54] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. Can't wait. I want to go see it. So. Yeah, you.
[00:02:58] Speaker B: You'll like it. Other than that, I've just been watching a lot of horror movies like Saw, Obsession, Saw, Leviticus, Saw.
I didn't see Holcomb yet. Didn't see Backrooms, but I will. Making my way through the. The Horror summer list, as it were.
[00:03:15] Speaker A: Her back rooms is good. I need to see Obsession Session is one.
[00:03:21] Speaker B: It's definitely one of the best movies this year for sure.
Amazing.
But in the meantime, as more movies are coming out, let's go over to Marvel News, DC News. First up, Marvel's Spider Man. It's of kind. Got their newest. I think it's the final trailer right before the. For the movie comes out.
[00:03:38] Speaker A: I'm pretty sure it's the final one.
[00:03:40] Speaker B: Yeah, should be. It should be, right? Yeah. I mean, it comes out July 31st, so maybe we'll get another one before that. The time of this recording, the end of June. So.
But what did you think? Like, I'm already hyped for this movie.
[00:03:54] Speaker A: Yeah. I watched the trailer. I mean, there's plenty of spoilers out there. What's going to happen? This movie and this. This trailer gave them all away after that.
[00:04:03] Speaker B: Did it? I didn't watch it because I was like, you know me, I don't need to see anything for Spider man anyway.
[00:04:08] Speaker A: Yeah. It just really. What it did was it. It hit on some more plot points and kind of where they're gonna go with the movie. So.
Yeah. Don't watch it. Yeah. From what I. What I saw from it, it just reinforces the fact that this movie is gonna be wild.
[00:04:25] Speaker B: The last one was.
[00:04:27] Speaker A: Yeah, this. Like that. Yes.
[00:04:30] Speaker B: Three Spider Man. Like, Right. They haven't been able to top it since.
[00:04:34] Speaker A: So that's. That's the thing. Like what. The whole multiverse thing and just kind of what they relied on for that movie and then what they're pushing into this movie. Right.
And then they keep saying, like, we don't even know who the villain of this movie is yet.
They, like, there's statements of that what Tom Holland is. They've not shown that or revealed who the true villain of this movie is. So there's a lot of.
There's a lot of rumors out there for this movie. There's a lot of, like, huge.
[00:05:01] Speaker B: Can I tell you what I think it is?
[00:05:03] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:05:03] Speaker B: I bet you it's Mr. Negative.
[00:05:06] Speaker A: Yeah, there's. I've. I've not heard Mr. Negative.
[00:05:09] Speaker B: I have not seen anything, but I just feel like those games are so popular and I bet you anything they try to introduce the idea of Miles.
[00:05:18] Speaker A: I.
Maybe, you know, it's just. It's. It's interesting to think about, like, where they're going with the. The MCU at this point. So. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if it's a mutant. I don't know if it's. That it is going to become Hub Goblin. You know, all these weird. Right. All these weird things out there. So kind of glad that it has not surfaced.
[00:05:38] Speaker B: Me too. And to your point, as far as Goblins go, I haven't seen them yet in this. This verse. And that's. You know, I do know. Based off of the LEGO set or something. Like, there is Oscor, finally. So it's a. It's about time that we get that name thrown out into this mcu because one of the biggest bads of all time, like, come on.
[00:06:02] Speaker A: Right. And it can't just be Willem Dafoe, so. Right. They gotta rewrite all of that.
So. That's right.
[00:06:11] Speaker B: All right, so let's go over to DC, though, because DC's hitting crazy stride right now as far as releasing things. We got our season two trailer for Caped Crusader coming back to Amazon.
[00:06:23] Speaker A: Looks great.
[00:06:24] Speaker B: Can't wait.
[00:06:25] Speaker A: Yeah. What is that? July? I think it's dropping.
[00:06:29] Speaker B: Yeah, it's soon, actually.
Yeah, so it's coming up very soon.
[00:06:34] Speaker A: Excited for that. That was a great first season. Very.
Actually.
[00:06:37] Speaker B: Sorry. July 31st, same day.
Yeah, of course.
[00:06:41] Speaker A: Cool.
Like I said, inundated.
[00:06:44] Speaker B: Yeah, of course. Of course.
We've got our LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight. It's gonna be hitting on Switch 2 on September 18th. Everything about this game looks amazing.
And I haven't played it yet because I kind of wanted to wait for the more advanced version. But the other one came out May 22nd. So this is just better graphics, I guess.
[00:07:09] Speaker A: Yeah, no, I mean, like, it didn't drop for Nintendo for whatever reason. So they. They waited to release the Switch 2 version, but it came out for everything else, which is kind of. I was like. When they announced this, I said, okay, I want to pick it up for the Switch.
This is the kind of game that I would rather have portable, you know?
So I. Yeah, I was kind of surprised that they. That they had to wait a couple months in order to release this. But whatever. It's coming.
[00:07:38] Speaker B: It's coming and we'll play it because we play all of Them, they're awesome.
[00:07:42] Speaker A: Yeah, great stuff.
[00:07:43] Speaker B: We got our first trailer for Nightfall, which will be a three part animated series trailer. Looked as I expected. Freaking epic animation. Keeps getting better.
Not sure about some of the voices.
You know, I'll leave it until I actually see the full movie.
I don't even know if like Bane sounded Mexican, which is very strange to me.
[00:08:09] Speaker A: It's the guy who plays Scorpion.
[00:08:12] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:08:12] Speaker A: Spider man movie.
[00:08:13] Speaker B: Well, he's Latin, so. Yeah.
[00:08:15] Speaker A: All right. Yeah.
[00:08:16] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:08:16] Speaker A: Handsome mountainous Batman.
[00:08:18] Speaker B: Oh, that's who it was. He was fine. It was Joker's voice and Bane's voice specifically that I was like, it's funny.
[00:08:26] Speaker A: I forgot to watch this trailer.
So it's, it's a good trailer. So night is. Are they gonna go Nightfall night?
Like Night Quest night?
[00:08:35] Speaker B: I think so.
[00:08:35] Speaker A: Night's end. Yeah.
Yeah, that'll be interesting if they do split it into the three that way. So if we do get Nightfall just for the first movie, completely is, is the breaking of the Bat. So.
Yeah, I'm excited for this.
[00:08:51] Speaker B: Yeah, it was, I was telling my wife this was seminal part of our growing up.
This was like one of the events of the year or of the, of the time, you know.
[00:09:03] Speaker A: So. Yeah, it's funny. I remember even as a kid when Superman died, it was on the news, right. So it was like. Yep.
[00:09:11] Speaker B: Before that was. This is before that, I think.
[00:09:15] Speaker A: Yeah, it's.
I forget which one caused the other one. Right. It's like, let's, let's kill off Superman. Let's break Batman. Let's, let's do these career changing things for these superheroes. But yeah, even back that before, like superheroes were the, the mainstay. Like, like that kind of stuff is monumental.
[00:09:39] Speaker B: Exactly. And the one other thing to note about it is it will be rated R. So that will be very interesting.
[00:09:46] Speaker A: That's wild.
[00:09:47] Speaker B: Okay, I know three part animated, rated R, so.
But in a lesser, not rated R necessarily. DC also announced three more animated projects that are coming.
We've got Crypto.
Fine. You know, whatever for kids, it's great.
We've got the anime Joker Laugh Riot, which will be very interesting because that's going to be done with an SE as well, which is an anime studio. And then we've got absolute Batman, which, you know, it's now at the top of its game. And Scott Snyder serving as showrunner, which I thought is pretty huge because he has not had that opportunity yet.
[00:10:35] Speaker A: That's interesting. Yes.
[00:10:37] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:10:38] Speaker A: Huh. Yeah, I mean it's, it's those, those books have become so popular.
And they're really just making a ton of money for DC and proving that like they know what they're doing with these kind of like, oh, Marvel wants to go and do Ultimate. Well, this is what we'll do. We'll call it Absolute and then it's good stuff. I just, I picked up absolute Green Arrow from the comic shop the other day. So I got. Actually, I gotta read that still.
[00:11:07] Speaker B: Yeah, I honestly like, you know, I love what Marvel has done with the Marvel zombies and stuff like that, but DC just keeps bringing it and they always have for animation. Like it's kind of not even a contest at this point.
[00:11:23] Speaker A: No, it's not.
[00:11:25] Speaker B: They destroy. I mean like they, they keep innovating themselves and so, yeah, so very, very excited to see, you know, what's, what's coming out when DC drops all these animated projects.
[00:11:38] Speaker A: Speaking of that though, real quick, it's like they also showed some stuff from Dynamic Duo at that animation fest or whatever they did. So a lot of people are talking a lot of. I mean I watched where they did the animation studio redid like an Iron Giant scene and it's insane. The puppetry that they use like the puppetry that they use for that and the puppetry that they're using for this and that whole program is just like, it's insane to watch that. So I'm actually really excited to see how what they do with the Anatu. When you get to see, when we get to see stuff in that movie.
[00:12:14] Speaker B: I know, Very frickin excited. So next is a galaxy far, far away. We've got Star Wars. The first one is Star Wars Zero Company. This is going to be a tactics game which I don't believe we have had in the Star wars universe yet, right?
[00:12:38] Speaker A: Not truly, no. Not like XCOM and. Yeah. And that kind of like style. We've had strategy games, we've had things like, like those kind of games, but never like this. And I'm not a huge fan because like I got my ass kicked in the Aliens game that came out a couple years ago and it was just ruthless and that kind of put a bad taste in my mouth of getting destroyed and murdered by Xenomorph. So hopefully this is a little bit different and survivable.
[00:13:06] Speaker B: Hopefully. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see how it goes. I love those games. So you know, you're in Star Wars. I'm all in. I cannot wait for an rts.
[00:13:16] Speaker A: It'd be like Mario Rabbids level play then. That's so much that's different. You know, those are so fun.
[00:13:23] Speaker B: And then finally we've got our final trailer. And I've actually read some reviews about this game, Star Wars Galactic Ra.
It's got an online mode and it also has a single player mode. And from what I understand about the single player mode is that they treated it like a.
What are the runs?
You know, those games that we didn't. Huh?
[00:13:46] Speaker A: What? Which ones?
[00:13:49] Speaker B: Like Dungeon Crawler or Dungeon Survivor?
[00:13:52] Speaker A: Roguelike.
[00:13:53] Speaker B: Yeah, Roguelite. So they treat it where you go out for a run. You know, you go to try to win this race, and if you don't do it, you got to start back and you know what I mean? You got to keep doing it. That's how the single player progression system is. And I've heard it's very rewarding because you fail and then you upgrade your pod and then you go back out. And I was like, this is. I'm in.
[00:14:15] Speaker A: Yeah. It's getting a lot of comparisons to Burnout as well.
[00:14:19] Speaker B: Yeah. Which I love those games.
[00:14:21] Speaker A: Yeah. So I was not really, at first, like, I didn't really care that there was another racer game come out. Like, I didn't think I was going to be that interested.
[00:14:30] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah.
[00:14:31] Speaker A: And then all of a sudden there was like, oh, there's a good storyline to this.
[00:14:34] Speaker B: Yeah.
Yeah.
[00:14:37] Speaker A: Graphics look great. So I will be checking this game out. Definitely.
[00:14:41] Speaker B: Yeah. And it gives you that nostalgia feeling of the pod racer game from yesteryear, which I did love as a racer. That's always fun.
So let's jump across the other side of the galaxy to Star Trek. We've got our first trailer for Strange New World Season 4.
I mean, can't wait. There's gonna be some dragons. There's gonna be some crazy stuff going on.
[00:15:10] Speaker A: Yeah, it's. We'll be setting up for the last season. You know, season five will be the final season for this. This adventure.
So I've heard this. This season's much more episodic. Like, there's no, like, big overarching story to it, no big bad. So it's more classic, like serial Star Trek from what I. From what I've read. So comes out in July.
[00:15:34] Speaker B: And we will be there to tell you how it was when Chris geeks out about it. In the next months, Chris finishes season three.
Oh, my gosh. There you go.
Star Trek is returning back to video games in a. In a different way, which I'm very excited about, because we're getting a Star Trek horror game.
So this is gonna be, you know, Between Bloober team and then the Paramount Games division, which is a new division of Paramount and they've done things like Blair Witch Project game and stuff like that.
It's very interesting to see a psychological thriller in, In Star Trek.
[00:16:18] Speaker A: Yeah, I, you know, I, it was when this popped up, I thought, what are they doing here? Like an ensen row in a. In a horror video game.
Really an interesting spin on, on the whole universe.
Yeah, it's, you know, Paramount's got its.
Got a big task in front of it, absorbing WB games and all of this stuff. So it'll be interesting to see how they, how all this, like plays out.
A little pun, but, you know.
Yeah, I, I was really surprised by this. So I'm excited that they're. They're actually going with a known character and releasing a game like this, so.
Oh, I'll play it.
[00:17:05] Speaker B: Yeah. Seems like they're their answer to like maybe alien isolation or. You know what I mean? Something like.
[00:17:11] Speaker A: There is no answer to that.
[00:17:13] Speaker B: No. Part two.
And then finally it's Star Trek News. We have different type of games. Star Trek Outpost Unknown. This is kind of like a Sim City meets the strange new worlds. So if you were ever one of those Sim City fans and you want to build your own Star Trek utopia, now you have that opportunity in this new game.
[00:17:35] Speaker A: I always did, so maybe I will. The demo's out.
[00:17:40] Speaker B: Yeah, demo is out now, so you guys can check that out. But I don't know, I'll see. I was never a big SimCity fan.
[00:17:47] Speaker A: I don't have time to sit in front of the computer.
[00:17:48] Speaker B: That's it. It's just like, it's so much. And I understand you can leave it, you know, kind of on its own, but I just never really.
It never really did much for me.
[00:17:57] Speaker A: Consoles though it is coming to consoles,
[00:17:59] Speaker B: which I think is pretty, Pretty freaking.
All right, so Chris touched upon Magic the Gathering and his geeking out. And here in Crowd Sorcery, we've got a little Magic the Gathering action. We've got Drew Tucker, who is an iconic magic artist. He's got Playmats as well as a token collection that you can now back on Kickstarter. We got the link in here, of course.
Art's beautiful. You know, a really, really great Dan Dan Playmat.
[00:18:31] Speaker A: It's like, I don't know, it's.
[00:18:33] Speaker B: It's a beautiful set. The Tokens are great. The Playmats are great.
You know, if you're a magic fan, you're looking for some outside of the Box outside of the Etsy, and you want to back somebody who is a magic artist. It's a cool set.
[00:18:48] Speaker A: Yeah. 30 bucks for the entry level isn't bad either. So not affordable. Not affordable.
[00:18:53] Speaker B: Something like this. Yeah.
[00:18:54] Speaker A: No.
[00:18:55] Speaker B: So again, we'll leave the link in there for that. If you guys want to go back it, you could check it out.
Moving over to comics, we have another.
The. The team of the Sender descender little monsters. Oh, my gosh. These two, Jeff Lemire and Dustin Ngin, which I can never say right, are back at Image, and this time they're gonna be bringing us Crowbound, which is being touted as Handmaid's Tale Meets the Road with Echoes of Kill Bill and Pan's Labyrinth.
All of those things above, you know, not including the great creative team behind it means I will be checking this out immediately.
[00:19:39] Speaker A: Yeah. When they. When they make that many comparisons, it makes me laugh. It's just like.
[00:19:43] Speaker B: Right, Right.
[00:19:45] Speaker A: If you like everything.
[00:19:49] Speaker B: Yeah, that's.
[00:19:49] Speaker A: It's kind of. It's quite the. It's quite the concoction of storytelling right there. So. But it's in good hands, so it's. It sounds interesting as well.
[00:19:58] Speaker B: That's it. That's just dropping in September, IDW is continuing on with its horror imprint, which is IDW Dark. They gave us some Smile comics. They gave us some. A quiet place. But now we're going to expand to more ip, such as the Turtles is getting some treatment, Star Trek, Godzilla, and we're going to see a lot more. So lots of crazy things coming out through the Dark imprint. And I, you know, I love it. I think variety is the spice of life, and giving fans different things is a cool way. I like this.
[00:20:35] Speaker A: Yeah, a lot of this is going to be variants.
Yeah, the variant covers and stuff for the normal runs. But I love the Star Trek one. I think it's really cool.
The Turtle one's neat, but, yeah, Iew Dark, we get a lot of those preview issues and readers. So check them out.
We do have access to those.
[00:21:00] Speaker B: That's it.
[00:21:01] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:02] Speaker B: Yeah, actually, you're right. We do absolutely have access to it.
A while ago, I guess, earlier this year, all the Firefly kind of cast teased at a new series that's coming out, animated series. But the, you know, the comics have been going on for a long time and we've got a new series coming out from Dynamite, from Mark Russell and Lorenzo Ray.
This will be kind of Mel with Simon and Kaylee kind of dealing with a heist and going from there.
I love Firefly. I love that the adventures are continuing on, you know, in animated or print form. So this something you check out?
[00:21:47] Speaker A: Yeah, I've always read the. The comics from this world. I have. I have a lot of them. Most of them, if not when they were in Dark Horse. So. Yeah.
[00:21:56] Speaker B: And boom. And now this.
[00:21:58] Speaker A: Boom. Had them, now this. Right. So if you're going to expand, you know, you can expand the world with the animation, the new animated whatever it is.
And you're going to be working within that established world from prior to, you know, serenity.
Tell more stories within that time. Yeah. Too, you know, so just build it out. So I'm really, I'm excited. It's a great, you know, space. True space Western.
[00:22:23] Speaker B: That's it. Let's just keep it going. Keep, you know, the fans are there, so keep it going.
I saw this tease for the next piece of news the other day and I was quite shocked. It's Spawn 77, which will be brought to you by McFarlane, but as well as Mark Spears, who. Mark Spears is on a high right now over at Keen Spot for his Monster series.
And so his artwork is very akin to that Monsters of Filmland kind of style. And it plays really well with this new spot.
[00:23:00] Speaker A: Well, new.
[00:23:00] Speaker B: Old Spawn, going back to his roots as.
This is the one that Todd McFarlane came up with years and years and years ago when he was 16 years old.
[00:23:13] Speaker A: Yeah, I.
I just pre ordered this. There's a couple covers by McFarlane, including like a variant cover of like his original sketch of. Of the. His spawn 77, we'll call it. So. Yeah, three part series.
Yeah, I mean, the true origins of Spawn. Right.
[00:23:35] Speaker B: Yeah, right, right. We'll see what that means. But we will. We'll be checking it out regardless. A good team up. And then finally, in comic book news, Valiant continues to surprise us.
And this time we're getting a crossover, which is Street Fighter versus the Valiant universe. So I don't know how this is happening. IDW is teaming up with Alien Books.
Tim Seeley, who has done many things on both franchises, is coming in there with artist Alfredo Cardana.
I don't really even know what this means other than Cammy and Bloodshot are going at it. And with the new Street Fighter movie coming out. I don't know if this is kind of drumming up more interest, but I thought it was out of left field, this announcement.
[00:24:28] Speaker A: Yeah, it's really weird, especially since it comes out in July.
I think it comes out right. So, yeah, when I saw this, I was like, oh, shoot. I know. Like, I wanted to get this, but it's already. You know, it's already. You can't order it because it's coming.
[00:24:44] Speaker B: Yeah. July 29th. You're right. So I have to pick it up in stores. Your lgs.
[00:24:50] Speaker A: Yeah. This kind of flew on it. Like, if this flew on the radar, it flew completely under the radar. So I. I don't. Yes. I don't even think we touched on this before or even thought that this was.
[00:25:00] Speaker B: Didn't even know about it.
[00:25:01] Speaker A: Yeah. Right. So neat. I guess.
See how it goes.
We'll report back.
[00:25:09] Speaker B: Reporting back. Absolutely.
Chris, though, what time is it?
[00:25:15] Speaker A: It's time to pursue some plastic.
[00:25:17] Speaker B: That's right. And we've got a big chunk of plastic to show you guys.
First things first. NECA's coming out swinging. Of course, we've got our Fortnite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle crossover figures.
Honestly, I thought that that interpretation of the characters was a cool variant in itself. These figures look pretty freaking awesome, in my opinion.
[00:25:43] Speaker A: They do.
You know, the Shredder's up for. Ordered already. Okay, cool. That's a neat one where he's, like, has crane on his back.
It's. Yeah. I mean, if. If anyone's gonna make these kind of figures, Neck is the right company for it.
And, you know, with Playmates losing that license league, it just. Who's gonna take over, like, making all of these Ninja Turtle figures that everybody has a license to? Right. So I guess that's part of it, too.
Who makes the best Ninja Turtle figures?
[00:26:14] Speaker B: Right.
[00:26:15] Speaker A: And it does a great job.
So looking forward to seeing what these look like in hand.
[00:26:23] Speaker B: Yeah. So they'll be hitting Target stores in July for the. For the Turtles, Also a Target exclusive. We'll leave the link for this one because you can preorder it. This is the Friday the 13th ultimate figure. Ultimate Savini figure. So if you know Tom Savini, he has worked on many horror franchises, including the Friday the 13th ones. This care, you know, this.
This, I don't know, toy is his kind of hand at it. I'll be honest with you. It's cool.
It's not as cool as some of their other ultimate figures. And even, like, I just saw their Jigsaw one. The sculpting looks like garbage. It's. It's an all right figure. But again, if you're into Jason and you got to be a completionist or you're into Savini, you got to be a completionist, then it is available. And we'll leave the Link out there. But I've seen, you know, compared to the Fortnite Turtles figures, I just thought they kind of did a lackluster job.
[00:27:22] Speaker A: Yeah. This one. Well, somebody loved it because pre orders are sold out now. No.
[00:27:27] Speaker B: Okay, well, there you go.
[00:27:29] Speaker A: Keep an eye out at stores because that, you know, they also release these really quickly into stores now. So Target does a decent job having the exclusives for you to pick up. So if you do see it, this one's pre order. So it, it'll be a little bit, but it'll be around, you know, so if you really do want this, which, you know, I'm not a huge Friday 13th fan, I. And this is based off the game, right. In a way. But Savini's design, which is, which is wicked looking, you know. Yeah. Compared to like the bait, the many basic Jason's we've gotten throughout the years. So the pricing just keeps going up though.
[00:28:14] Speaker B: Plastic.
[00:28:15] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:17] Speaker B: San Diego Comic Con is coming up real quick and of course the exclusives are getting released and we're here to tell you about them. Including we've got Gem and the holograms in Transformers crossover over.
It looks pretty cool. You know what I mean? Like the, the, the colors are playful of that 80s style. You got 80 saddle, boom box. And you know, I, it looks fun. I won't get my hands on it because I'm not at San Comicon and I'm not going to spend the hundreds of thousands of dollars some scalper is going to charge me for it. But it is a cool looking figure.
[00:28:52] Speaker A: It'll. It'll be on pulse every time. They, they do a really good job with giving. Having a supply. Right.
For those who can't win the lottery and go to San Diego like you have to now. So this is, this is a reskinned S wave. I have this actual sound wave figure and you can tell it's the same exact figure because it comes with the cassette tapes of, of Ravage and. And s. Whatever the laser beacon, the other one Rumbler or whatever. So it's exact, it's exact same figure but the gem paint job. And then they were, you know, teasing for STCC is like this fake concert with like Gem Transformers and Cold Slither and all this really, really funny stuff. So they're doing a cool job kind of like building it up, I think with whatever they're planning to do with Gem.
Right, right.
[00:29:50] Speaker B: Well, I, you know, like I said, it's cool and if you get it, your hands on it, it's. It's coming at you.
Next up, we have the Action Man Hasbro Pulse figure. It's going. Not expensive. It's $42.99. It's kind of on par with ultimate figures. I don't care, but a lot of people probably do. And it is available until it's getting shipped out September 1st. But we'll leave this pre order for you.
[00:30:19] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't. I don't even remember Action Man. I do, briefly. 50 years old. I mean, it's more than us. Right? So 70s, a 70s action figure. You know, it's a cool. It's a cool thing that they're doing this kind of homage to it. So.
[00:30:38] Speaker B: Yeah, it's. Listen, they're the GI Joe. And I'm actually going to move up these, like, GI Joe is, you know, on a roll right now. And it has been since Hasbro kind of took it over.
Shocking. We haven't gotten another movie or series announcement. We just keep getting video games and toys.
[00:30:57] Speaker A: But like, we did. I mean, we got the other John's coming, you know.
[00:31:03] Speaker B: Right, Sorry. I guess I meant like at this time. Yeah. Like a live action show with like Alan Richter or something. Like, it's, you know, it feels like this is the time.
[00:31:15] Speaker A: Yeah. I just. I don't know what. I don't think they know what they want to do with it. Remember, they have like two movies in the works.
One got. One got shot down because the. What? Max Landis is an idiot.
[00:31:27] Speaker B: He isn't. You know, we talked about it. It was shocking. Got even moved at all. Even someone even got his name in an article. Like, come on.
So now, good again, Bizarre World.
[00:31:40] Speaker A: That's what.
[00:31:42] Speaker B: All right, but continuing on with the GI Joe news, and also, it is the 40th or 30th anniversary of Tomb Raider.
I can't remember, but we're getting that crossover between GI Joe and Lara Croft.
I'll be honest with you. It's. It's cool. It's at that. What is it, 3.75-inch scale?
[00:32:05] Speaker A: No, I think it's. I think it's classified as a six.
[00:32:08] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:32:08] Speaker A: I think it's a. I think it's a six inch from what I can tell. From what I can tell. Maybe you're right. But I'm also just a rendering of this.
[00:32:15] Speaker B: Right.
[00:32:16] Speaker A: Of this figure. So.
[00:32:17] Speaker B: Yes.
Yep. So pre orders have gone up this week. Actually just a few days ago, because some of these are San Diego exclusive. But I thought it was a pretty cool little collab.
[00:32:33] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean, we. I think we Brought it up last show and we're like, what are you gonna do? Of course, yeah, action figure. Yeah. But yeah, I would, I would pick this up because the render looks cool enough and it's a, it's a good, it's a cool crossover that you're not gonna really get a Laura Croft action figure at this level probably for like the 30, 40 price point, you know.
[00:32:56] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:32:57] Speaker A: At this stage of our, in our lives.
[00:32:59] Speaker B: Depending on the scale, you know. Depending on the scale.
[00:33:02] Speaker A: Well, I mean, depending on the scale with this is like the 4 inch figures are like $3 less than 6 inch figures now. Which is wild to me. Like when you look at the Star wars vintage collection versus the Black series and stuff, it's just the, the pricing is wacky to me, honestly, that it's just a little bit more for 6 inch figure.
[00:33:23] Speaker B: Yeah, I think they're just kind of making up stuff as they want and people, people keep paying for it.
So.
[00:33:31] Speaker A: It depends on what you're giving people though. I mean, if, if you're gonna push six inch figures into the forty dollar range, they've got it. They gotta do something like. Yeah, gotta, it's gotta be worth it. McFarlane's putting out these elite series figures for 60, $70.
But they're like inundated with, with accessories and, and it's McFarland, you know, so. And Hasbro is not McFarlane when it comes to.
I don't, I, I don't know. I, I'm just always surprised when I'm looking at vintage. Vintage collection figure for like 20, $25. Just blows my mind at this point.
[00:34:09] Speaker B: Yeah. You know, it, you, you are absolutely correct. It is, it is sometimes a hard pillar swaddle. But as we talk about on all these, you know, it just depends on what's in your heart. You know, something to somebody seems expensive. The other person's like, this is cheap.
[00:34:26] Speaker A: Darkness is. Darkness is my heart.
[00:34:28] Speaker B: That's it. Forever. Forever, Chris. And Then finally in GI Joe figure news, Larry Hama is getting a 112 inch figure. Larry Hama, who has been instrumental in anything GI Joe since the beginning.
I think that this is a great homage to him.
Really cool idea. And I, you know, it hasn't gone on sale yet, but when it does, we'll have a link for it because it's just a cool, cool idea that's
[00:34:56] Speaker A: been a big bad store or big bad toys.
Exclusive, just niche. Yeah, yeah. They make their own figures and everything, so. Yep.
[00:35:05] Speaker B: So thought that that was really cool.
Chris and I haven't bought Mezco in a while. This is the 14,000th Punisher that they're now releasing.
This is the classic Punisher. This is the one that you would get from the COVID This is the one that was at one point. I don't even know how much money. Hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I think this is the first figure they released. Right.
This is kind of like an update of that one.
[00:35:31] Speaker A: This is. This is a weak update of that one. In fact, I was kind of excited at first. You know, it's just like that.
That Punisher figure that.
That I still have, the one that's just.
Is one of the best Punisher figures ever made. And you would think by now, a decade later that they would. They would be making better products, but they're not.
They're not. I just. I. Look at this. The head sculpts are cool. It would be nice. Cool. But this, like, I don't care.
[00:36:01] Speaker B: Yeah, it's 14 figures later. Just sell me the heads.
[00:36:05] Speaker A: Right. Like, what is your. What is your business plan?
[00:36:08] Speaker B: You've sold me all the guns many times over, all the weapons. We've even had this interpretation of the character in the white and the black. It's just slightly better materials, I guess.
I don't know. But we leave the link for you. If you listen. These figures sell out every single time. But at this point, if you are a Mezco Punisher fan, I feel like you've been eating pretty good for the last 10 years, too.
[00:36:34] Speaker A: For sure. For sure.
[00:36:36] Speaker B: Yeah. No shortage.
[00:36:37] Speaker A: Hasbro's putting out better Punisher figures, though, right?
[00:36:42] Speaker B: We've also got some hot toys, a couple of new figures. We've got Ellen Ripley.
It's kind of like an artisan edition, they're calling it. She comes with a ton of accessories. It's from Aliens.
Honestly, I want it. I want it. I want this with the alien. I want both of them, then I want the queen, and then I will be done.
[00:37:03] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm good with NECA scale for a lot of stuff because it's so expensive. And this. This looks like Rhea Perlin plays Ellen Ripley. Like, I.
I don't think it looks good.
[00:37:13] Speaker B: Really? I. I was just gonna say I think the sculpt looks good.
[00:37:16] Speaker A: No, it looks like. It looks like the chick. The lady from. From Cheers. I don't like the. Like, look at her face. You'll. You won't see the same again.
Yeah, I'm not. I'm just not that impressed for a 3, 400 figure.
Yeah. Yeah.
I don't Know, I. Like I said.
[00:37:32] Speaker B: No, that's. Listen, now that you said it, you know, screw you.
[00:37:38] Speaker A: I also, I also have an alien hot toy. So I don't. I don't need more. I have. Yeah, the awesome.
Like those alien hot toys are great because they're like the skin ones. Right? So they're right.
[00:37:51] Speaker B: No, no, you're right. Well, speaking of the skin ones and things that do look like the character, we've got our masters in the universe, he man figure.
I think it looks great. I think they really leaned into like that fishing kind of style.
And I just want to see a Conan figure like this. This is the base is freaking cool. But this, it's a seamless silicone upper body, arms and legs, and even the eyeballs move.
So it's. It's a cool looking figure.
[00:38:25] Speaker A: Yeah, they've been doing a lot more of that stuff. More on the realism. And I hadn't bought hot toys in a long time. And right now I'm. I got the Predator Badlands figure with.
With wearing the. The droid is the backpack.
[00:38:42] Speaker B: Oh, no. Yeah, yeah.
[00:38:44] Speaker A: Because I'd wait forever to, like, pick up. I wanted a pr. Like a Predator hot toy to go with my collection. So I'm wondering, are they doing this, like, the skin thing for all figures now?
[00:38:55] Speaker B: Well, I'm gonna leave the link in here too, because they had a link for Skeletor and. Yeah, it's in there. Skeletor looks freaking insane too. Same thing.
[00:39:05] Speaker A: Yeah. What a cool design.
[00:39:07] Speaker B: Oh, my gosh. I might need this.
We got the links in there, guys. The Skeletor looks even better. His eyes light up.
The base is insane.
[00:39:17] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:39:19] Speaker B: Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. This is the greatest Skeletor I've ever seen. All right. And then finally in.
Well, sorry I spoke too soon. In pursuit of Plastic news, we.
Whatever you guys thought of the he man movie, or the Master Universe movie, rather, we really enjoyed it and thought there was a lot of great nods. And one thing that I thought was a fantastic meme that they did, which was bringing Jim Bro Skeletor to life.
And it is now a San Diego Comic Con exclusive, which you'll be able to get on the Mattel creation website starting June 20th. Or, sorry, July 23rd, but just a really, really fun and cool figure.
[00:40:01] Speaker A: I agree.
I agree. They just.
That and they should do a Dolph Lundgren one too, as well so they can work out together.
[00:40:09] Speaker B: They will, they will, they will. Come on. Because that pairing is too good. So, like, again, we'll Leave the links for everything that you can buy immediately and then. And then go from there. But for now, while you guys are debating how much money you're going to spend on all these figures, we're going to go to a quick commercial break and we'll be right back.

[00:42:01] Speaker B: And we're back from those luscious commercials. And Paramount continues to amaze us with their weird moves this year as the 40th anniversary of turtles is bringing us the live show, a theatrical tour which I will be there front row and center with my daughter whenever it launches in fall of 2027. But it'll feature the parkour, martial arts and of course the hip hop of Leonardo and friends and Vanilla Ice. Chris is on his Turtles theme pops off. Chris, would you see this? Are you into this idea? I am.
You already got my news on it.
[00:42:45] Speaker A: Yeah.
This is for you, not me.
I'm just gonna. I'm gonna wait for when the Lost Boys goes on. Yeah. Your review. Yeah, I need to go see the Lost Boys musical if I'm gonna go see anything on stage, which is now
[00:42:59] Speaker B: going national tour is amazing as well.
[00:43:02] Speaker A: Yes, exactly.
But no, I. I couldn't care less.
I don't even know if I would if I would have gone to see out of their shells when I was a kid, you know, I don't know.
[00:43:14] Speaker B: Oh, I didn't have the money to do that, so. But I knew of it.
[00:43:20] Speaker A: Just give us the goddamn last Ronin movie. Paramount plus. Come on.
[00:43:24] Speaker B: Well, well, we will go into some last Ronin news, but before we get into that, let's get into TV streaming news.
First up, Ghostbusters Night Shift coming to.
It's an animated series coming to Netflix, but it's show run by Ben Hibben and Elliot Kalan along with Jason Reitman and Gil Keenan, who have kind of reboot Ghostbusters verse. It's set in there. It's in the.
I think it's in the 90s is when this takes place.
[00:43:55] Speaker A: Yeah, it takes place a couple years after Ghostbusters 2. Yeah. Yeah. Yep.
[00:44:00] Speaker B: So f. Yeah. You know, I don't want to use my first F bomb in the show right now, but yeah, I'm in. I saw some. They show some stills.
[00:44:09] Speaker A: It looks cool.
Yeah, No, I think it's.
I. I'm just kind of confused. Yeah, it is. Because I don't know. They're not making another movie right in that.
[00:44:20] Speaker B: Well, we've been.
They've. They have said in the past, we talked about it before, like, that they were going to kind of do two things like a sequel still set with those guys, and then kind of like an offshoot Ghostbusters core or whatever or Ghostbusters worldwide. So they've talked about that kind of stuff. But for decades, Dan Aykroyd and all those guys have said, well, this is
[00:44:44] Speaker A: what we want to do.
[00:44:45] Speaker B: So I don't know.
But for now, we got official news. This is coming and. And that's it. And I'm excited.
The 80s are still alive as we will talk about almost every single one of these things.
Gem and the Holograms is coming back as a live action series at Amazon.
Sure. You know, I remember when they did what you call it, Josie and the Pussycats.
That was fun. That was a fun movie.
Though I will say this, this is a little bit different because it's supposed to be a elevated live action techno thriller series.
I don't know what a techno thriller is, but, Chris, we've played enough, you know, games of the ilk that. That sounds exciting to me. Is this shadow run with Music Syndicate?
[00:45:42] Speaker A: This is. Yeah, right.
[00:45:45] Speaker B: So anyway, I'm excited.
[00:45:48] Speaker A: Yeah. Told you. Jim's coming back.
[00:45:49] Speaker B: Jim is back, baby. She's got a toy and she's got this.
All right, continuing on Scooby Doo, we've got our first look at Scooby Doo Origins. This will be the live action version where they're kind of a little bit younger. And Scooby Doo is an actual dog as opposed to a CGI thing.
[00:46:13] Speaker A: That's the surprise here, right? That's the big thing that everybody's saying. It's like, what, wait, he's a real dog?
[00:46:20] Speaker B: Yeah, fine. I don't care, dude. You know, whatever. Scooby Doo's back. Let's see how they do it. Is it a pup named Scooby Doo? I like that. It's a live action series. We've never seen that, so.
[00:46:33] Speaker A: Correct.
[00:46:34] Speaker B: Just the movies and it's on Netflix, you know, so it's like it's gonna have some money behind it.
I'm down.
All right, so Mattel Studios is unveiled their. Their first look at their YouTube series, Tales from Eternia. This is aimed towards children. They're 24 minute episodes are coming out. They're released weekly through November 20th. And I forgot it was. It's out. So I need to go show my daughter like today because she really loved that Master of the Turnia or Master of the Universe movie and was talking about Shira with me today. So I'll show her after we end this show.
[00:47:13] Speaker A: Excellent, excellent. Build that, build that fan base.
[00:47:17] Speaker B: That's it, right? And that's, that's how it. That's how we get more.
So there you go. All right. Up next is Dungeon Crawler Carl, which I have geeked out on all summer long. Or pre summer.
We have our TV series which is ordered by Peacock. Coming from Seth MacFarlane's fuzzy door.
This is the only part where I just don't know. I don't know what, how I feel Seth MacFarlane behind it, but I've never watched the. What is it? His show? The Orifice. What is the show? It's not that.
[00:47:55] Speaker A: The Star Trek show.
[00:47:57] Speaker B: Yeah. Which I've heard is amazing. The Orville. Orville. So I love this series so much and I bet you the animated series that will eventually come out will be better.
We'll see what the live action. I don't know. It's so huge budget too. I don't know how they do it on TV like this.
[00:48:18] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't know either. I mean, it's just like these studios looking for projects to buy up and they put some star power behind it money. So. Yeah, I don't know either. I don't know this ip. So you will you tell me? I guess I will.
[00:48:37] Speaker B: Yeah. I actually my wife started because she was like, all right, like, let me, let me see. Like everybody's Talking about it. And I was like, I think you're gonna like it. I know you will. It's just. That's a no brainer. It's ready player one on crack.
[00:48:53] Speaker A: It's.
[00:48:53] Speaker B: And I still in. Ready player one. Still great. So.
All right. Next Friday the 13th.
We knew that we were getting a live action show in that world, but now it's announced from Paramount that Dan Trachtenberg will be directing the first episode of the horror comedy slasher animated series.
[00:49:18] Speaker A: Yeah, I was just like, what is this?
When it popped up, I mean, attached Dan Trettenberg to it. Fine. I mean, already, you know, so, yeah, just kind of a wild spin out of out of left field for this one.
[00:49:33] Speaker B: Yeah. So just to clarify, this is Freddie the 13th, which is Freddie the 13th.
[00:49:40] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:49:40] Speaker B: Yeah. Different than Friday.
So this is going to be kind of like a goof off of that world.
So family vacation turns into a nightmare with fun. Uncle Freddy accidentally kills the boogeyman and takes on his powers. And when he takes on his powers, a lot of the other, like, kind of monsters show up.
[00:50:01] Speaker A: What this sounds?
[00:50:02] Speaker B: Yeah, so it's. It's a mix of, like, a bunch of little. A little things there.
[00:50:07] Speaker A: Cool.
Parents should probably not show their kids.
Oh, this is what he's saying about stuff he's made. Okay.
[00:50:14] Speaker B: Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:50:15] Speaker A: Right? Yeah.
So this looks fun. Okay.
[00:50:19] Speaker B: Yeah, it looks like a fun little cute thing.
And then we've got some huge news, which I was shocked about.
Gendy Tartakovsky is going to be bringing a Conan the Barbarian series to Cartoon Network and Prime Video produced by Warner Brothers Animation. Who's done Primal? Like, I. I can't even. This is insane.
[00:50:46] Speaker A: I think that was the first thing that, like, when we saw Primal. Where's the Conan?
[00:50:50] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:50:51] Speaker A: Yeah, here it is. There it is.
[00:50:54] Speaker B: He goes. I've been trying to develop Conan since 2008, but the world wasn't ready.
It is now.
[00:51:01] Speaker A: It's true. All of it.
[00:51:02] Speaker B: And Conan's back. That's the other thing is, like, Arnold's back is Conan. So, like, this is insane. This is just great news. I smiles all around. And continuing on with that Cartoon Network flavor, we're also getting a docu series and two anniversary specials, including one from Robot Chicken.
All kind of talking about Cartoon Network and just how weird.
If you really think about how weird it is, how it was just showing, like, cartoons that we grew up with in turn, you know? Then it was like, oh, here's the Powerpuff Girls. Oh, okay, that's cool. Here's Dexter's laboratory. Here's. They just kept sprinkling more, more and more. And then it's like you get Tim and Eric and like, here we are getting Conan and like, hell yeah. Man, I cannot wait to watch every little piece of documentary about this wild company.
[00:51:57] Speaker A: Yeah, it reshaped the idea of animated shows completely, I think.
[00:52:01] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:52:03] Speaker A: Like you said, it was just this cable TV station and it became its own entity completely.
So it's just, it's, it's legendary. So I'm really excited to watch this too. Yeah.
[00:52:18] Speaker B: So, yeah, very excited to hear that. All right, so moving on over to movie news. We've got Eli Roth's Ice Cream Man. This is a reboot of the.
What's his name? Clive Howard. Yeah, Clint Howard. Clint Howard movie. Actually, that movie is one of my favorite horror movies because we used to watch it all the time with Eric Myers growing up.
And I don't know why we rented that from Poppy all the time until we ripped it and then we just watched it at his house. So I had fond memories and I cannot wait to see what Eli Roth does with this stupid film.
[00:52:58] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. Something gross.
[00:53:02] Speaker B: Yeah, that's it. So it's coming out in August. August 7th. And we will see his interpretation of it. It looks like a fun trailer and a creepy little trailer and we'll see how it goes.
In bigger news though, we got an announcement that Neill Blomkamp has been writing and will be directing the Starship Trooper movies for Sony. Will be a more faithful Adaptation of the 1959 Robert H. Heinlein novel.
[00:53:34] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:53:35] Speaker B: What is that?
[00:53:37] Speaker A: I don't know. Excitement, I guess so. I mean, it. It is. I. I won't go down the other path of what Starship Trooper stands for. But yeah, I. Sure. I just.
There. This is what, this has been announced. This has been in the works for how long now?
[00:53:55] Speaker B: A very long time. Yeah.
[00:53:57] Speaker A: Yeah. So is it. What is the. What is the news? Is it, is it. It's actually happening now? Like. Yeah, okay. Yeah, all right.
[00:54:06] Speaker B: Yeah, that's it.
[00:54:07] Speaker A: So do you want to know more? Because I, I do.
We will.
[00:54:12] Speaker B: We will definitely keep everyone posted about it because we are fans. So we will see how this goes.
Up next, Anya Taylor Joy will be joining the hunt for Gollum as an elf, which she already naturally is named Saren.
I don't know.
This is a no brainer other than this movie existing.
[00:54:35] Speaker A: That's. That's the news. That's the weird part of this, that we don't need this Movie, but I'm sure we can regardless. So Lord of the Rings. So whatever. Yeah, more.
[00:54:47] Speaker B: More Lord of the Rings. You're right.
All right, so keeping along with, like, the video game adaptations, Streets of Rage has been announced to be from Lions Gape. And James Samuel will be directing this classic 90s brawler. He directed the Harder They Fall and the Book of Clarence, which are both great movies. So this is going to be very interesting.
The writing duo will be the guys who have been doing the Sonic movies, which I also love.
[00:55:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
Can they go, right? So somebody was an exec, was like, oh, there's a new Mortal Kombat movie. There's a new Street Fighter movie. What. What can we make so we can get some money? Let's make Streets of Rage. And people are like, what?
Sure. I. It depends on what tone they take with this movie.
And if they go, well, would that do anything? Right.
[00:55:42] Speaker B: I think. You know what I mean? I think it's got to be funny
[00:55:45] Speaker A: because I think that's like, what's gonna give Street. Correct. Like Street Fighter.
[00:55:49] Speaker B: Like, you got to do rolling on blades, knocking out people like, you know what I mean? It's. It's River City Rumble, but, like, way updated. So I think I'm excited for this.
[00:56:00] Speaker A: Yeah. I just want to see what they're going to do with it. Right?
[00:56:02] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:56:03] Speaker A: So, yeah, have some fun with it.
[00:56:06] Speaker B: Next up, we've got Spawn King Spawn is now finally sort of getting announced because we're still tentative. We've announced this many times over, but Blumhouse is supposed to be turning into an R rated supernatural horror film. Finally, long awaited.
What do you think? You know, we've. We've kind of told this story a few times.
[00:56:30] Speaker A: What?
What?
[00:56:32] Speaker B: This is the Jamie Fox.
[00:56:33] Speaker A: The Jamie Foxx Bond movie.
[00:56:35] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:56:35] Speaker A: This is it.
[00:56:36] Speaker B: Yes. Jeremy supposed to be Twitch.
[00:56:39] Speaker A: I don't. I don't know.
Sure.
Show me the money. I.
[00:56:44] Speaker B: Well, to that point, they did show, like on Instagram, Jamie Foxx, Todd McFarlane, and I can't remember a few other people all hanging out together. And that was the announcement. So I was like, okay, okay.
[00:56:59] Speaker A: AI produced photo.
So it's not real.
There we go. We'll see.
[00:57:07] Speaker B: There we go.
[00:57:07] Speaker A: Sounds great. Sounds great, Case. He'll see at the theater. We'll see.
[00:57:12] Speaker B: I'll see you live. All right.
Continuing the 80s, continuing with Cartoon Network.
WB is set to get set to be giving us Thundercats and Powerpuff Girls movies. Now. These are supposed to be animated. I know we talked about Powerpuff Girls Live action. Which should see if it's on.
[00:57:34] Speaker A: Like, can.
[00:57:35] Speaker B: Is that out? Like, can you find it?
The Chloe Bennett wb, I think it was going to be. Or cw.
[00:57:43] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:57:44] Speaker B: Yeah. But anyways, so animated. I think this makes sense. I remember seeing the Powerpuff Girls movie in the theater.
The first one or whatever. So Thundercats though, long overdue franchise to get Tap to get a reboot here.
[00:58:00] Speaker A: Yeah, I just. Animation is the right way to go with this.
[00:58:04] Speaker B: I.
I'm especially from wb. Right.
[00:58:07] Speaker A: They.
[00:58:07] Speaker B: We already talked about how great they do in animation, so.
[00:58:10] Speaker A: Yeah, exactly, exactly. I mean, it's all.
It's all Paramount now, so it's just like all the pieces. Right, right. So we'll see. I mean, what do you do with this?
You haven't touched Thundercats a long time. You've been talking about live action. Never happened. I don't know if I wanted to see that, but I'm down with more animated all the time. Easier to make. You know, it's probably gonna happen, you know, less money. So.
Yeah.
[00:58:38] Speaker B: Yeah. So we'll.
We will keep you guys posted as the news comes out.
So this is a. This is a different one. Duncan Jones, David Bowie's son, director of Moon, which is amazing.
He has done an animated adaptation of Rogue Trooper, which is the 2000 AD comic strip. So the people who make Judge Dredd.
So it's out. It's. People are watching it. It's getting okay reviews, but it's just the fact that, you know, we're getting this animated, weird comic adaptation.
[00:59:19] Speaker A: Yeah. It's a. It's cult. It's a cult classic. Right?
[00:59:22] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:59:23] Speaker A: I just. I was really surprised when I saw this and that. That it's like made. Right. So.
[00:59:30] Speaker B: Right.
[00:59:31] Speaker A: We must have talked about this at some point. Right?
[00:59:33] Speaker B: I don't remember. Honestly, I don't remember. And that's. It's really strange to me. The other thing is, like, I don't know when it's set to come out, so hopefully it is coming out pretty soon. We just don't. We'll keep you guys posted as we get more news on it.
Yeah. Bear McCreary doing the.
[00:59:57] Speaker A: Right.
[00:59:58] Speaker B: The sound. Like, that's great.
[01:00:00] Speaker A: So interesting.
[01:00:02] Speaker B: And then finally, in movie news, we've got Digger coming out.
Digger comes out this October. It's directed by the guy who did Birdman. I cannot pronounce his name, but I will say they did the super cut before you got. I would say a tease of Digger, but a super cut of all of Tom Cruise's films. And I'll be honest with you. We came home after Supergirl and we watched all the behind the scenes of his craziest stunts. And then Kira was like, what's Mission Impossible? Like, we went down a Tom Cruise hole. I love him. I. I love every single Tom Cruise movie. I think he is the best actor of our time. Not best actor, but best, like, working actor ever.
He gets paid off the box office.
He believes in movies. He wants people to go to the theater. He wants people to have cinematic experiences and have fun. Like, he is a huge advocate. Whatever he does when he talks to aliens is what he does. But I love Tom Cruise.
[01:01:09] Speaker A: Exactly. You got to set your personal feelings aside, you know, as far as, like, Tom Cruise, when you got to look at his show me the money. Right. And that's. That's it. That it's Tom Cruise to a T.
And in some of the greatest movies you've ever watched in your life for sure. And that's it. You can't deny that Tom Cruise is not a good actor. Like, he is. He is a good actor, and it just.
[01:01:36] Speaker B: He has a movie for everyone.
[01:01:38] Speaker A: Exactly.
Exactly.
Exactly. So.
[01:01:43] Speaker B: So love it. If you guys get a chance, we'll leave the link in there because it is a really great edit. How they did it and Digger looks great. All right, so moving on to gaming news, which there's a chunky bit, but we'll get through it, guys.
D and D and Vampire the Masquerade are teaming up as we get. Vampire is joining the D and D verse.
[01:02:10] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:02:12] Speaker B: That's cool. White Wolf is bringing it to life, which is the team behind Vampire the Masquerade. So that's even cooler. It will be called Vampire the Masquerade. Vampire the Masquerade, Bound by Blood, which will be an officially licensed supplement, which we talked about, I think, last year, that they were finally going back to what Kickstarter has been just taking all the money away from Hasbro because people have been doing supplements for years and making careers out of it. And so they're finally getting wise and cashing in on it. And, hey, we've been wanting to do an more Vampire the Masquerade stuff. Maybe we can do some one shots. I don't know.
[01:02:54] Speaker A: Yeah, no, exactly. Good idea.
You know, more vampire classes within. You know, you just put out a new Ravenloft.
[01:03:03] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:03:03] Speaker A: Supplement. You know, so there's a lot of. There's a lot of, like, a lot of room there to play as. As our favorite monster of the night. So it's good stuff.
[01:03:12] Speaker B: You got It. All right, so this is, you know, we had some Street Fighter news in the comic world. In this one, we're getting Final Fantasy character Tifa.
We'll be Joining Street Fire 6, Year 4.
I can't think of a more fitting character to join the crew.
What did you think of this little tease reveal?
[01:03:38] Speaker A: It had been rumored.
[01:03:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:03:39] Speaker A: And then, you know, they just. We're blessed with, you know, State of Play and Nintendo Direct this month. So a lot of cool video game news. This, however, is just like, shows how many, like the legs that six, you know, Street Fighter 6 has. That's just continuing.
We don't need to make Street Fighter 7. We'll just keep making Street Fighter 6, you know, last as long as possible, you know.
[01:04:02] Speaker B: So, I mean, it's the destiny way, you know, like certain franchises, you can do like a Tekken do it. You know what I mean? Just keep doing. Try. Like even Mortal Kombat will last for a bit, you know.
[01:04:14] Speaker A: Well, they're.
[01:04:15] Speaker B: They keep extending it, so I think it's cool.
[01:04:17] Speaker A: It's funny you said Destiny is. It is dying right now.
[01:04:20] Speaker B: I know it is.
[01:04:20] Speaker A: I.
[01:04:21] Speaker B: But it's taken a long time. It has taken a long time. I know. As soon as I said it, I was like, well, you know, for now anyway. So I'm just gonna roll because there's a lot of fantasy news.
[01:04:32] Speaker A: There is a ton of fantasy.
[01:04:34] Speaker B: Final Fantasy 7 revelation Also, we gotta look at. This is the last one, right?
[01:04:43] Speaker A: It is.
[01:04:43] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:04:44] Speaker A: Final one of the remake to wrap up the story after three video games, which have both been amazing.
It also gives me the green light to finish part two, which I usually. It's such a huge game, right. And I don't like to try to finish it too soon because it's taken so long for these movies or these games come out in between. So I'm very excited to finish it up and to see kind of how they refine it even more.
Because from the remake to Rebirth and all that stuff is just. It's improved on, you know, on the gameplay and all that stuff. So it'll be exciting to finish up the story.
[01:05:24] Speaker B: Exactly. And to your point, we'll leave the. The links in there so you guys can see the trailer as well as the opening little gameplay intro, which is very cool.
Final Fantasy Resonance. We got a trailer for that.
This is.
What is this one, Chris? Is this the mobile turn?
[01:05:45] Speaker A: No. Okay, well, yes and no. So they. Brave.
Brave something brave.
I don't know what the original game was. Was a mobile.
I want to Say it's a gotcha game.
Yeah, it is. And it was.
But it was very. I liked it a lot and it was fun to play. Yeah. It wasn't like.
It was.
It was good. And then they stopped. They ended it.
But now they're bringing back the storyline and revamping it completely into a real, Full Final Fantasy 2D slash, 3D type of game. So going back to the classic, you know, look of Final Fantasy, adapting this and. Looks great, honestly.
Yeah.
So I'm excited for this because I. I did like the story of the other one. I was kind of sad that they ended it, but at the same time, it was just. The play in that kind of format was.
It just got old and there was like, no.
Like you had the story, but it just kept going and they would add stuff in like they do with mobile games and that sort of. So it'll be nice to have this set streamlined. Yeah. And to have it just less, I guess, less attached to it, you know, so. Yeah, I'm excited.
[01:07:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:07:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:07:08] Speaker B: I couldn't agree more. And then Final Fantasy 10 is finally making its, I guess it's Switch debut, right?
[01:07:19] Speaker A: No, like. So they. They had remastered the game. Yeah, they remastered the game previously.
I have the remaster for the original Switch. Now they're making like a Switch 2 remaster. So even more. I don't know how much better you can get. Remaster the remaster.
[01:07:36] Speaker B: All right.
[01:07:38] Speaker A: Yeah, whatever. I mean, if you haven't picked it up. I picked up. I picked up. It was 10 bucks for the. The Switch version. So it's like you're not going to make that many different changes to charge 50 bucks.
[01:07:49] Speaker B: I don't.
[01:07:50] Speaker A: I don't know. It's. It is what? I mean, Final Fantasy 10 is amazing game.
It's one of my favorite Final Fantasy games, period. And it's always worth the replay. But not at 50 bucks.
[01:08:02] Speaker B: Right. And you know, hey, guys, hold out and it will go down.
So.
[01:08:07] Speaker A: Right.
[01:08:08] Speaker B: There you go.
And then kind of still in the Final Fantasy realm, we've got Kingdom Hearts 4. We got a teaser trailer for that.
And that will be hitting the Nintendo Switch as well.
[01:08:21] Speaker A: Switch two.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's.
I love those games and I think that this one looks. It looks even more real.
So, you know, as they. As they expand that world. Three didn't. Three didn't really wasn't a fan favorite. So we'll see if they can rekindle that. That fire.
[01:08:44] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly. Exactly. Not for me, but we'll see.
Alien Isolation two. You know, we, we mentioned it. They did finally release the trailer for that a few weeks ago.
It's just a tease, but it's, it's in that world and it's looking creepy and I can't wait to get back in.
[01:09:05] Speaker A: Yeah, I was, I read somebody who had like a hands on play with it and they said it's, you know, it, it's, it's a good, it's. It is what, you know, it's a great continuation of it. Now you have more of this with it being set on a planet this. More open space.
And so there's a lot more open spaces versus like the, the contained space station.
But I mean it's the same thing. Right. So you're stuck on this planet. Right. But they're like, how is the AI like how are they going to adapt the AI for the alien to understand like when it's in the open and how it's going to, how it's going to function? So that was the one thing about alien isolation that was really unique was how smart the AI of the alien is. And it can only be better at this point. So I'm really excited to see how they treat that.
[01:09:54] Speaker B: You know, I'm sure, I'm sure they use AI to make the AI.
[01:09:59] Speaker A: It's scary as hell that game. Yeah, it's very smart.
[01:10:03] Speaker B: I can't, I can't handle it.
[01:10:05] Speaker A: All right.
[01:10:07] Speaker B: I cannot handle it. Next up is Resident Evil. Veronica. We got a trailer for that.
That was. I, I like this game co Veronica.
[01:10:16] Speaker A: The original one.
[01:10:17] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:10:18] Speaker A: I never played it.
[01:10:19] Speaker B: Dreamcast.
[01:10:21] Speaker A: Yeah. That's probably why I never played.
Yeah, I think this is a great idea. The, the remakes have been really awesome. I am like mostly done with four now. I've played all, you know, up to four so far and I. These HD remakes are, are great game. They're a great way to, you know, get people into the series again.
They've done a great job with just delivering the story at the, at the graphic level that they, that they have because now you have seven through nine and to go back and kind of bring in these other games so they're, you know, more modern is. It was a really smart idea. And this one I, you know, for people that didn't have a chance to play it is, you know, it's a good opportunity. So. Yep.
[01:11:07] Speaker B: Can't wait. I agree.
[01:11:08] Speaker A: Picking this one up.
[01:11:10] Speaker B: Yeah, it's gonna be awesome. So this is just weird. It got announced today actually. It's Tekken cartoon which is.
It isn't I don't even know how to say it's like an animated series, but all the characters are like weird Chibi.
And it doesn't.
It just looks crazy. I'm just gonna leave the trailer in there. I don't really know what it is other than it is a Tekken cartoon and it's coming out.
[01:11:42] Speaker A: Wow. We can report the day of the news.
[01:11:44] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
[01:11:45] Speaker A: Never works out that way.
On the day. On the day. That's right.
[01:11:50] Speaker B: The turtles are continuing their trend of being awesome and getting more and more into the pop culture zeitgeist. And finally we got our trailer, or teaser really, for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the last Ronin video game.
Just some quick looks, you know, at things. But, you know, it's the studio that did Bayonetta and Nier Automata and Ninja Gaiden 4, and every single one of those games is great.
Yeah, they know what ninjas are.
[01:12:20] Speaker A: Yeah, no, for sure. It's just all of this last run of stuff like. Let's get with it.
[01:12:25] Speaker B: Yes.
[01:12:26] Speaker A: Already, please.
[01:12:27] Speaker B: Yeah, no, I, let's go.
[01:12:29] Speaker A: Paramount.
[01:12:29] Speaker B: That's right. But we're getting it and can't, can't wait.
Godzilla is coming to destroy all monsters. The beat em up is back and remastered. I never really liked this game, but it is coming up for the switch and it's, you know, if you're into it, it's coming up.
[01:12:51] Speaker A: I, you know what, man? I, I, I downloaded this when I got the emulator on my, the original one. Yeah. My, my, my Steam deck. And you know, they're. It's a dated game.
A lot of these. Right.
And there's like, newer, like, Kaiju games like Gigabash and stuff like that. A lot of fun that actually have Godzilla characters in it. This looks really awesome because it's, it's a true, like, remake of the game. Right.
[01:13:19] Speaker B: Which I appreciate.
[01:13:20] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. It's more than just a remaster, added, added creatures, things like that. So I'm sure that, you know, with the graphic, the graphics, how they are this these days and, and, and, and whatnot, it'll be interesting to see how, how well this plays. I'm. I'm excited. I'll. I'll check it out when it's on, you know, sale.
[01:13:41] Speaker B: Yeah. Well, great.
One thing I will not check out is Godzilla Defense Force X. We got a trailer for this. This is a new strategy management mobile game meant to, you know, probably take your money.
I don't know what else to say. It looks like garbage, but we got to report it.
[01:14:03] Speaker A: What Is it? No, we don't.
We don't have to do anything we don't want to. We did.
[01:14:10] Speaker B: I mean, it's still Godzilla. Listen, I'm not yucking your yum. If you want to go play it, go ahead.
[01:14:15] Speaker A: But it says it's getting shut down.
[01:14:17] Speaker B: Is it?
[01:14:18] Speaker A: I don't know.
This is Defense force shutting down. Not sure how many this update will reach, but it's now past the termination.
Termination date. Okay, so what was this game? Did I play this game? No. Oh, I remember this game.
I did try this and it's not that fun.
[01:14:38] Speaker B: Well, maybe that's why it's finally getting shut down.
[01:14:41] Speaker A: Yeah, this came out about the same time I was playing that other monster, the Monsterverse game, which was okay. It was like that little standard, like Star wars of the D.C. game that we played before. Okay. Yeah, like that this hour was like you would just throw things at a giant monster on the screen. So it was okay. But there's a reason why it's shut down.
[01:15:01] Speaker B: There you go.
So, you know, avoid it at all costs because it probably doesn't exist anymore, but things that are coming out and I cannot wait for Castlevania. Belmont's curse.
This is the.
This is what we wanted, right? Like, this is an updated Castlevania. It's got a Belmont at the helm and it looks like a very updated version of Symphony of the Night. And like that side scrolling Metroidvania that Castlevania is in the title. Jesus. You know, like it's why it was invented, that term for sure.
[01:15:38] Speaker A: We got, you know, we got the release date now it's October.
You know, the dead cells people did it since they did that really cool homage to Castlevania. So it's exciting. You can get these pre order bonus bonuses right now, including Symphony of Night Alucard costume for it and different fun stuff. So I will be getting this day one, of course. It's strange though that there is that they're not released a Switch 2 version. It's a Switch version, so.
[01:16:07] Speaker B: Like.
[01:16:07] Speaker A: At all.
Yeah. There's not an actual Switch 2 version for it. Which means either they'll get a graphical update like down the road or.
[01:16:17] Speaker B: Probably. Right.
[01:16:18] Speaker A: But it's just kind of weird to me, so.
[01:16:22] Speaker B: Okay. Well, it's. It is. That's interesting. All right. This. I didn't see this trailer I saw until you dropped it in there.
[01:16:31] Speaker A: So.
[01:16:31] Speaker B: Crazy Taxi World Tour. Crazy Taxi is one of my favorite games, to be honest. I loved it in arcade. I loved it on my Dreamcast. I Love the soundtrack. And it's just getting updated with hopefully the same exact soundtrack. And it's coming out.
[01:16:48] Speaker A: Yes, exactly. Will play.
[01:16:51] Speaker B: That's it. Last one was 1999, so why not?
Crazy, really is.
Next piece of news. I'm gonna admit something I've never done before. I've never played Ocarina.
[01:17:06] Speaker A: I've never beaten Ocarina of Time. So really. And I've played it.
I've tried to play it a few times. And actually, I'm kind of excited that I've never beaten it because now I can go through and play it with the remaster.
[01:17:20] Speaker B: Right.
[01:17:21] Speaker A: Or the remake. I'm sorry. It's a remake.
[01:17:24] Speaker B: Even I, you know. Yeah. People are on the fence. They. They're worried that it's not. Because people are comparing it to Star Fox, which apparently they feel is not. And so, you know, we're gonna see what this looks like probably a little bit, you know, later on.
[01:17:41] Speaker A: I don't know what people want from one from Star Fox. Star Fox is like an arcade game.
You can beat. You can beat it in a city. You can open up new world. You can open up these different paths and play it again for high scores. I don't think people remember what Star Fox was and what they wanted from it. It's not. They announced the game. It came out a month later. So it's either like, you accept it and you enjoy it because it is a fun game. And I've. I went back and played Star Fox games and they. They're not great, you know, they're not as great as you remember them being.
No. In fact, they're kind of hard to play.
So, like, the nostalgia from that shouldn't dictate how you feel about this new game. Like, oh, you don't like the. You don't like the animation. I don't care if you don't like the animation. These. These cutscenes add a lot to the story to begin with. With this, however, kind of pissed me off because all you show was like, link it. Like, you're. You've got. You're kind of airy. The opening, that's all you show. That's. You have this game coming out this year and that's all you show. Like, I get. You're gonna do your own direct on it. But you could have given us a little bit more. I mean, it looks.
Looks great, I guess, for.
[01:18:59] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, I thought his, you know, whatever. The graphical update, obviously, is gonna be night and day because the GameCube look like crap.
[01:19:07] Speaker A: So. Oh, 64, you know, that's old.
[01:19:11] Speaker B: Oh, never mind.
[01:19:12] Speaker A: You're right.
[01:19:13] Speaker B: You know what it is, is like I started it and then I just never. And then it just kind of went from there. But I played all the other ones, so.
[01:19:21] Speaker A: Yeah. Insane. I mean, it's tough, like, because it was a departure from the other ones. Right. It's not. Yes, it is. It's not Breath of the Wild Departure, which, you know, I have my own arguments about if. If that's truly a Zelda game or not. So this, however, like, I've played the 3D games after that, like Twilight Princess and, And the Wind Waker and stuff like that. And they're all great games.
[01:19:45] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:19:46] Speaker A: So going.
[01:19:47] Speaker B: Everything's a departure.
[01:19:48] Speaker A: Wasn't a problem. Right.
[01:19:49] Speaker B: You know, like.
[01:19:50] Speaker A: But it's a departure, but it still kept that same form.
[01:19:52] Speaker B: Yes, yes, yes.
[01:19:54] Speaker A: So, you know, so I'm. I'm excited because I. Ocarina Time is like, it's classic.
[01:19:59] Speaker B: Same. Same.
Okay. Netflix's trailer is so crazy. This immersive horror game called Unhinged with Zoe Kravitz, Sadie Sink, and Troy Banker, it's kind of. It's the studio who did Oxenfree Night School Studio.
It launches at the. In a couple days at the time of this recording. So, yeah, it just kind of looks cool. And you could play it from your phone, which is how you can do all the Netflix games. And I have played other Netflix games. They're all really good.
[01:20:33] Speaker A: Yeah. No, I agree.
So this is a.
[01:20:36] Speaker B: This is a different one, different style. And I'm excited for it. Trailer looks fun.
[01:20:42] Speaker A: Yeah, keep going, Netflix.
[01:20:44] Speaker B: That's it.
And then finally, in video game news, GTA 6 has gone live for pre order without a physical disc, and it has now made $1 billion in one hour.
[01:21:07] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:21:07] Speaker B: It's fastest highest selling video game of all time. And it hasn't even been released on
[01:21:16] Speaker A: highest selling thing of all time.
[01:21:18] Speaker B: No, you're right. Yeah, probably.
[01:21:19] Speaker A: Thing.
[01:21:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:21:20] Speaker A: What else has ever done there? Like, it's insane.
Here's. Here's the thing. I don't understand this.
This digital game thing and not giving you a physical.
It just, it's when I just, I just read something where Sony has.
I forgot what they did. They're. They're ending like, support for like the movies. Right? Their movie.
[01:21:45] Speaker B: That's. It's not all of them. There's a lot.
[01:21:48] Speaker A: Yeah, but that's a huge, huge point.
[01:21:51] Speaker B: A huge library of them.
[01:21:52] Speaker A: Yes, that's my point is like, you don't own the fucking game. You don't own the fucking movie. And all of a sudden these companies can say, well, we're done with the light. Like it won't happen with Rockstar. Of course not. Because it's like Rockstar now has more money than God in this example alone. But this is the problem with these digital licensing. It's a little worrisome that you can just lose your stuff because they don't have a contract or whatever with, with a company anymore. So.
[01:22:21] Speaker B: Can I answer your question? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
To respond to you though?
Yeah, I, you know, I agree.
Do you think with this kind of capital, which they've always had in control over their, all of their stuff, do you think they'll go and do something live action?
Because like we haven't seen anything from Rockstar. And that's kind of interesting now that I, I was thinking about it.
You know, you have all this money, you could have your own studio and you can make Bully, you can make GTA whatever. Your own story, you know, its own story itself. Like, why haven't they done it?
[01:23:03] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, if you're, if a studio is making Far Cry, which is mind boggling to me, that that is even gonna make any money because it's so kind of a generic idea. Right?
[01:23:15] Speaker B: Far Cry and then an island escape the island. I don't know.
[01:23:20] Speaker A: But there's so many, there's so many different stories.
[01:23:22] Speaker B: Oh yeah.
[01:23:23] Speaker A: What will you adapt?
[01:23:24] Speaker B: Right. Yeah.
[01:23:25] Speaker A: GTA is like, it could be any Guy Ritchie movie. Any.
[01:23:29] Speaker B: Yeah, the whole world could be.
[01:23:32] Speaker A: Right.
[01:23:32] Speaker B: Anyone could walk into it and make some franchise out of it.
Yeah.
[01:23:40] Speaker A: Why haven't you done something like that already? You know, there's a lot of, there's a lot of money there to be made. Especially if you're gonna make that much money off a video game you're gonna make. People are gonna go see a movie called Grand Theft Auto, you know, so. Yeah, you're right. I mean, just a TV show. We'll see, right?
Why don't they buy Warner Brothers? Right? So,
[01:24:04] Speaker B: so yeah, that's, that's it for the, for the news guys. You can ponder that question yourselves. And Chris, where can you find us?
[01:24:14] Speaker A: We are all over the Internet if you're into that thing.
Website called don't forget italo.com on the social medias at defat and DFAT E N T. Hashtag, hashtag, hashtag.
[01:24:29] Speaker B: That's right. This is Casey saying thanks for listening to 277 episodes of U.S. talking and go read your comics.
[01:24:38] Speaker A: And this is Chris saying? Don't forget a towel.
